Well in response to this video I did travel to Germany to visit this museum.
Size wise it is a very large building.
3 floors. The 1st floor is very sparse. A nice cafe, a reception area, mainly empty space except for some reproduction mini game consoles if you can get them to work.
The top floor is not part of the museum.
This leaves the 2nd floor only for the museum.
There are some partial setups of old mainframe and mini computers.
A lot of space for old typewriters, calculators, odds and ends.
A large electromechanical telephone exchange which is just about the highlight of the place.
They have an enigma machine and related items.
A large area devoted to robotics and a seriously concerning quite new model responding in a very chat gpt like manner.
There was a combat flight simulator setup.
Finally then was a very small collection of microcomputers of which I have most of in my collection.
There were numerous Siemens computers, Terminals, hardware scattered around.
So if your looking for a big computer fix…you probably won’t get it here.
Cambridge or Bletchley Park are much more interesting.
Dare I say that a computer on display not working is really not that interesting!;)

This place really is insane! The visuals were stunning, and the way you captured the atmosphere made me feel like I was right there with you. Definitely adding this spot to my travel wishlist now.
If I could suggest one thing, it’d be cool to hear a bit more background or history about the location while exploring—it’d make the experience even richer.

Near my hometown, I remember my first visit around 1998, it was relativ new then and a lot smaller, but they had some really modern stuff there. I think they had a VR Setup around that time.

400 miles continuous driving… that's my normal drive for a long weekend trip from NJ to NH lol. I'm guessing that if you don't do it often, you don't realize how important it is to have a comfortable car or correct ergonomics (thigh support and bent arms = comfort).

I don't know if i still would have the patiemce to use a computer older than 10 years. I was already annoyed about the slowlynessin the 80s and later on and am just happy, that it's over now. 🙂

I find the Heinz-Nixdorf-Forum still interesting after at least 7 visits.
More interesting places for technology-mathematics-history nerds in Germany: Arithmeum in Bonn and the Phaeno in Wolfsburg. (Bonn is the much much nicer city, though.)

I remember going on a day trip there with our class over 10 years ago. just an hour drive away. was pretty nice but it seems they have expanded massively so maybe ill go again sometime

I am born and raised (and still live) in Paderborn. My father used to work for Nixdorf Computer in the exact same building where the museum is now in before the whole company was relocated to a different area in Paderborn.

Nixdorf was such a pioneer back than but failed to make the switch from large PC's to the ones we have today and even declined Apple as a partner back than.

If the german McDonalds is significantly better than UK McDOnalds… I don't want to imagine how terrible US McDOnalds must be. I had my "Once in a year, maybe" fill a few weeks ago. The Crispy Chicken Hot was ok, but… not for that price… Nuggets were, well, nuggets, the cheese balls were ok… But the other burger was lackluster, the fries lacked salt, and all of this together was 30 bucks…

Fun fact: Half the building is part of the University Paderborn where classes in IT, robotics, computer engineering etc are held. Students are also allowed to enter the museum for free.

I was using this pneumatic tube system at the Siemens-Nixdorf plant in the 90is… was crazy once it was replaced by “email” running on a mainframe.
