This Is Why Hot For Teacher Is AWESOME!

Justin Hawkins Rides Again | March 3, 2026

I had a lot of fun performing “Hot For Teacher” with Wolfgang Van Halen at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute show, so I thought I’d do a reaction to the Van Halen song itself!

It’s kinda funny that as you explain in technical terms Eddie’s solo; Eddie wouldn’t understand any more than me… He didn’t read music, and to his own admission knew just a few names of cords. That’s the wonderful thing about Eddie figuring out how to play by himself… It turned him into a mad scientist and also (IMHO) the GOAT.

Van Halen was the soundtrack of my youth and young adult life. Their debut album dropped when I was 11years old. I was hooked and bought every single album/cassette/CD that they released after. I am a huge fan of Van Halen and always will be.

What a great performance. Everyone did a phenomenal job. Wolf is so amazing and such a joy to watch as he carves out his space in the world. You guys were great together. I love watching Wolfie play with other musicians and having such a great time.

8:38 Well, seeing as how I was in high school during this time, I can tell you there were plenty of "stoner" kids who came unprepared to class, so teachers were always asking "Where's your pencil? Where's your paper?" So, I took it nothing more as a typical class underperformer.

In reflection of any Van Halen and he'll always be missed he was a great guitar player. But when I remove myself from the whole Van Halen band and bass what what's Eddie Van Halen's I think I find it lacking it's not to say he wasn't a great musician he was. But I don't think he would have ever become well known if if it hadn't been for the support of the band that he had musically when I listen to Vito bratta. Or rib Beach are all the other guitar players that are famous from that time period. I don't see anything that outstanding. In fact I believe Eddie Van Halen became a better guitar player after the dismissal of David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar entered the band Perry the music changed completely. He got more into Rhythm playing not so much of the acrobatics on the guitar the songwriting got that 100% better and I think that's when Eddie Van Halen actually shined as a guitar player the crowd

Sometimes I wonder, how long it would have taken Jason Becker to surpass Eddie professionally, had he retained his ability to play? I know it may make alot of people angry, but Jason's talent surpassed Eddie's, and he was still a kid. That had to be one of the most tragic things to happen in music, but also the most inspirational. With the hell he's been through in life, he still keeps that smile on his face. What a talented man! So was Eddie.

Isn't it ridiculous these days we can't say frontman when its obvious, however, manslaughter and man hunt remain ' untouched'?
    Food for thought?
    Probably for Hannibal Lecter lol

When u tap the beginning part when you hammer on the 2 notes with ur fret hand then tap the extension note with ur pointer finger on ur picking hand then u have to do a pull off with ur pinky then pointer finger of fret hand most people don’t do the pull offs they just go back into the hammer ons only up the neck which is easier, still sounds good and non musicians would never know it’s not correct shit most musicians other then guitarist with really good ears wouldn’t notice but if u listen to the song each part of the lick goes up the neck then back down. It is weird to play it correctly nobody does pull offs going back down the neck specially when tapping u have to flick the string when pulling off going down the neck if u dont do it just right u will mute the string and/or not get a note from the pull off so it’s another technique u have to learn most guitarist always do triplet tapping up the neck only players that are really into tapping go back down the neck whenever I see someone tapping if they go back down they are always really good at tapping. Same goes to tell of a guitarist is a good lead player if they play a few scales and always go up the neck again meaning starting with their pointer finger to pinky even when coming back down the scale u can tell that guitarist isn’t a very good lead player which I am guilty of lol, when I started to really get into lead guitar I really struggled because for the first few years I would rip a couple scales always going up and never down so I could play fast going up & using hammer ons but going down & using pull offs I never did much so going back down was sloppy and my muscle memory was etched in my brain lol. I didn’t bring up that Justin was playing the intro wrong to be one of them guys that corrects everyone I’m not talkin crap just wanted to say that because most people don’t know and to be honest I don’t blame anyone if they don’t play it the “correct” way I personally can’t play it the correct way anymore because I stopped playing music 8 years ago so my muscle memory to play anything technical is gone plus I’m not a fan of people playing covers I have more respect for a not so good player who can write great songs anyone can learn someone else’s music.

some can imitate Eddie no One can duplicate him, he was truly a once in a lifetime kinda player, the music he wrote will last beyond forever, he was super human in playing, writing, composing, what a treasure, Thanks Eddie for the memories…
