Oh my gosh, Danny. Isn't it obvious enough that Sam must be another Messenger? And isn't it obvious enough that the title "Messenger" is a secret code for "Angel"? This movie is sooo full of Christian vibe, from the movie title alone – "Just Believe", to the fact that the Messenger dislikes being called a "genie" (indicating that he's not a part of this hideous fake Middle East mythology)? Seriously, answers are right there.

i know this is way late, but like… stan's abusive behaviour cannot be good for a kid in foster care. like, even if you assume that josh didn't have some sort of traumatic and possibly abusive backstory, which is unlikely if she's getting fully adopted by another family at that age, she's still grown up with a sort of instability that could make her extra sensitive to that sort of thing. and the way she (and the other little girl) reacts to stan's outburst when she finds the glove, it looks like they might actually have a history of that sort of thing. so like, basically, stan should not be given custody of any children, but especally not that one.

it really feels like sam is god and charlie is an angel but something stopped them from being Overtly Religious with it. like they just scrubbed it out of the script but the lingerings are there

I feel like this movie had really good potential, just cut out the genie stuff and have it be a story of a grieving father who has hit rock bottom and grows a heart when he meets a child who loves something his child loved before they passed, make it so Stan doesn’t shout at Josh and have him hold the rage back as not to scare them, before realizing that he actually likes seeing Josh smile. Then the change of heart feels more earned, make the abusive behavior way less worse and have Stan sincerely apologize to Lisa. I genuinely think this could have been a fantastic film if it wasn’t for the glaring problems.
