The Young Sheldon Finale Solves A Huge Big Bang Theory Plot Hole

Looper | August 19, 2025

One of the problems with spinoffs and prequels is that it’s hard to get everything to match perfectly. “Young Sheldon” was heading right towards that cliff, but managed to fix a major plot hole in the nick of time.

Cool. When are you going to tell us what happens with Paige?
It makes ZERO sense to bring her character into the fold to the extent they did, and then not even one sentence in passing to indicate her fate.

Well, he also described his brother as an idiotic loser, but when he appeared in TBBT, we knew that Georgie became a successful businessman that looked after his mother and sister after his dad's death.

The problem with saying Sheldon mistook his mom for another woman is in TBBT, he says when the incident happened he locked eyes with his father and that didn’t happen in the YS episode. I think there’s also a scene in TBBT where Sheldon says his mother called his father and his father’s girlfriend some “unchristian names.” While he no doubt loved his father, I think YS George is the version of George Sheldon wanted to be true. I think Sheldon clearly falls into the “unreliable narrator” category.

He's autistic. No wonder he struggled with reading people's, emotions correct or how to handle his own emotions🤷 we all do this to a certain degree. I'm good at it, but that doesn't mean I get why people act how they act in that moment. I felt so sorry for him in the final when he created all that scenarios about the last time he saw him before George went to work. Disassociation was his way to deal with the situation and is so real for many of us autistic folks.
That hisother always telling negative stories about his father even so many years later isn't really helping at all. It's hard enough for him to not mix his memories and emotions up about this.
And in the beginning of season 1 of TBBT, the death of his father is just 10+- years ago. I think that's not much, compared to the end/ending reflection of young sheldon.
We are often told we are cold and unemotional, but that's not true. We got hurt so often, and helped so little with processing that, that we internalise the pain.

I haven't seen Young Sheldon, I don't think I will but based on this video the writers should've stuck to what Sheldon said about his dad on TBBT. I hate it when they try to make everything so wholesome. Can anyone answer me this: Did they show when he shot at the tv watching football?, when he made sheldon watch football so he can then do his homework?, did they show when Sheldon found him in bed with another woman? These are not perceptions, these are thing that happened according to a person with Eidetic memory who doesn't know how to lie, according to everything we saw in TBBT.

Guys see sheldon's emotional analysing capacity when he was younger was very weak and thus it can be said that the image of his father he portrayed might not have been the whole story

People can argue and theorise all.they want, but tbe i consistency really is just because they didnt havr a prequel in mind when making tbbt. They were just making jokes that would be funny for the show, and bt the time they do make a "prequel" they realise the show would be better if it made changes.
Im ot even disappointed because young sheldon is good, so good that in terms of continuiry I wish tbbt would have been based on young sheldon than young sheldon maintaining the continuity from tbbt.

He also kept saying how stupid Georgie was. When he ends up owning multiple tire stores and sells more tires than anyone else in east Texas. Just because Georgie's intelligence isnt the type of intelligence Sheldon values he doesn't think it has any value. When in reality it brings in way more money than the type Sheldon has.

Sheldon explained the inconsistencies regarding his father in the last episode. What the writers did was great. Sheldon said now that he is an adult with kids, he see his father in a different light. Most of us get a better understsnding of life and our parents once we mature.

That actually makes sense. I can 100% see how a young, self-absorbed, arrogant kid could take his dad’s death and attempt to warp the memory of his dad to blunt the pain, instead of acknowledging it head on.

Even in Big Bang Theory, the mother never portrays the dad in a poor light. And Sheldon was always mostly dismissive of his dad. More avoidant than angry.

Children always caricature their parents, as if they were never children or teenagers or lovers or had their own ideas of what life looked like. It is not until we are grown ourselves, often after our parents are gone, that we begin to see them with adult perspective.

at one point in YS sheldon points out that he wasnt there for a scene and this is what they probably said, but in that moment it was a joke about how he was making them say he was great. but there are a lot of scenes sheldon isnt there for. id say most the show is sheldons estimate of his childhood from the analysis of his current self. more accurate than sheldons own interpretations in passing thoughts

I thought Sheldon being an unreliable narrator was a given considering his personality. Honestly, the most surprising part was that he admitted it.

Sheldon as a genius beyond his years, but his father died when he was 14 doesn’t mean he was mature enough to the emotions that he was feeling is maturity and his intelligence are two separate things he couldn’t handle her cope cause his father‘s loss he wanted it to his mother and family

George was the best TV father of any show I’ve seen, and I’m in my fifties and love TV.

George put the family in the truck, drove to NASA, waited at NASA, barged into office when he realized he was being shined on at NASA, forced NASA supervisor to listen to Sheldon’s theories and go over Sheldon’s math on how to reuse boosters. Then drove the family home after Sheldon was satisfied.

George argued to let Sheldon go to high school when he wasn’t getting anything out of grade school; then argued for him to take a class taught by Dr Sturgis in college, then argued for Sheldon to go to college full time. Always what was best for Sheldon, not for the family.
