I wouldn't pay a dollar for any convert where I'm farther than 100 feet from the band, and that's pushing it. But for most of the bands mentioned here, I would have to be paid to go.

the guitar thing confuses me. so imagine (pun intended) that you and your local friend group of 8 people in total are huge Imagine Dragons fans, and also loaded. your group gets the VIP package. are the band members revolving those 8 guitars on the stage during the performance? that sounds dumb as fuck. or are there only 1-2 of these tickets? why would i want a random guitar? argh???

More ammo to "why do you go to concerts when you can stream songs on the go?" comments. Brilliant.

I went to college near a well-renowned blues bar under a train line. My friends and I used to put on hi-vis vests and hard hats, sit on the loading dock with a beer in a paper bag, and listen to some of the best blues in the city. The only time we were asked, we said we were garbagemen waiting for the truck. If my VIP ticket doesn’t include watching the rats scuttling on a cold fall night, with total privacy on all sides, I'll never bother.

Everyone who opts to sit in their own little booth during a metal concert and pay for the… privilege has reached peak lame. Maybe it can get as bad but not worse.

Mick Fleetwood’s $35,000 VIP experience always struck me as the most expensive (and generally insane) VIP ticket. Though technically it got you access to three concerts, and a round of golf with Fleetwood. But it seemed like very much a ‘Mick’ thing, so expecting Lindsay or Stevie to say hi, pose for a pic or even acknowledge your existence was probably out of the question.

Ironically, Imagine Dragons would need to pay me $8000 for me to turn up at one of their shows.

Another thing is that the merch blows.
The lawn chair formerly known as a Bon Jovi seat is at least useful.
Metallica fucked over Napster for a stupid Ebay drink thermos.

VIP used to mean you got to meet the band for a photo op. Now, it means you get a "goodie bag" (of useless things you'll never use) and early entry to a cash bar.

I have a picture of the premiere of Tosca. Grand opera of the best sort. The Lira at that time was worth about 20 cents USD, which with inflation is $7.50 ish.
Here's the prices to see a grand opera with all the celebrities:
$22.50 for orchestra seats (three Lire)
$15 for the galleries (due lire)
$37.50 for a nice chair
$112.50 for a cushy armchair
$225 for the third tier of box seats (more walking)
$450 for the second (best acoustics)
$375 for the first.
Children and servicemen in uniform got into the gallery free.
Grand opera gala premiere. The richest possible rich people ticket, in a cushy box, cost about as much as it now costs to stand in mosh pit for three hours getting beer spilled on yourself.
The center cannot hold. People used to go to rock concerts or jazz clubs for fun, or when they were bored on a Tuesday night. We have been bred out of the habit.

Paid around $120 for a VIP ticket to a Remi Wolf show (my first VIP ticket I’ve ever bought) and got some exclusive merch and got in early so I was at the barricade. I ended up getting a set list, interacting with Remi while she was singing and got a drumstick that was thrown my way. One of the best shows of my life and I didn’t need to max out my credit card for it 😌

The sports analogy is totally reasonable within this context, it's just that anyone who would pay that much for courtside should be beaten with hammers.

May 24, 2026 at 8:36 am
Wrong. The concerts you reference are overpriced. I think that says more about the kind of music you listen to than music itself. The 1% is currently eating itself and I’m happy to watch from the other side of the glass

I managed to get the cheapest possible tickets for Gorillaz and Hayley Williams for their gigs in my city later this year in the 50-60 dollar range when converting my home country's currency. And I bought both tickets physically because I don't really trust online ticketing. Anyway, the former was Ticketmaster while the latter was from a local ticketing company. And both of them had extremely high prices for the tickets closer to the stage so I didn't bother with them. Granted, I don't really want to get involved in moshpits so staying a bit behind the front rows might be for the better despite being farther from the stage. But still, for anyone who really wants to see their favorites up close those prices are brutal, especially the bigger the artist.

30 years ago 2 tickets for Marilyn Manson was roughly $50-$60 depending on where you were "seated", which was great considering we also spent $ on gas to go 45 minutes away to see him, and still have money for parking , some merch, snacks, drinks, something to eat after the show and have enough gas money to get back home. You could easily spend $200 TOTAL and still come back with a new CD and t shirt AND a bumper sticker AND a poster. Good luck just getting 2 tickets these days for $200 not including anything else.

people love to complain about modern ticket prices and ticket master but i'm not sure what the solution is scalpers have always existed we could go back to buying tickets from the venues only but that isn't fair to people who don't live in the cities

I'm watching this after going to a goth night fest in a bar which costed me $15, and refreshments costed between $2-4, and even got a free glass of Absynthe. VIP tickers are a scam, more so if cost over $200, and Ticketmaster/Live Nation are a racket.

My sister saw Taylor Swift on the Eras tour here in Ireland. She paid about €150, which in Ireland is crazy money. She was surrounded by Americans. It was cheaper for them to fly to Ireland, have a holiday and see the show there, than see her in the states

The Imagine Dragons one is pretty scummy, cause they make it sound like you're getting one of the guitarist guitars. He plays Blit guitars, they are custom guitars that go for thousands of dollars.
@leilam3154
May 24, 2026 at 8:36 am
Honestly, the moment that VIP tickets stopped including Meet&greets, soundchecks and merch vouchers, they stopped being worth it. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't afford VIP tickets 10 years ago and I sure as hell can't afford them now, but at the time it was something that felt worth it and also somewhat achievable.

May 24, 2026 at 8:36 am
Expensive concert tickets is one thing. No one is able to spend more time that they have on this planet. So everything is like a bidding war to share your time. I mean part of the expense of concert tickets is that you are not at another person's concert. It's meant to be an experience where you are not stuck scrolling on your phone. Like if u are it better be some d appointment or else why the fuck are you at that concert. 😹😹😹
@Mr.PocketAivan
May 24, 2026 at 8:36 am
At this point, do you respect the person that spends less or more at a concert? I do see that people like to show off this class war at concerts. Like everyone else at the venue doesn't care
@Mr.PocketAivan

The lore of the music and the person really does change the expectations. Beyonce is a true Michael Jackson replacement. She is actually human but like superhuman. It's what she sells.

Awesome video, but i wish you had an actual section about emphasizing smaller venues/local acts instead of it just being an Ad.
