I really like how in their future society cops use chatgpt to train them on-the-spot for whatever situation they arrive at, because they didn't do any prep work and spent the entire ride over listening exclusively to commercial jingles. 10/10 for realism.

I didn't see this when it came out, and when I tried watching it not too long ago, I turned it off after not too long into the future part; it might have seemed daring to early 90s audiences, but now we've seen the results of what happens when people who truly and deeply believe that this is what liberals want, and what California is probably actually like, elect people who they think are just like John Spartan. Also, I think that Daniel Waters (the screenwriter) is sort of a proto-Joss Whedon; he comes up with some amusing bits, but overall the movies that he writes don't hang together very well.

I always interpreted the anarchist underground leader as a libertarian from the era of libertarians my dad is from. Basically the kind of liberarian who is mad they made a seatbelt law and is mad about smoking laws and my dad was convinced that some day the government was gonna come in and inspect or fridges to make sure we're eating healthy enough

I've loved this movie in so many ways in so many stages of my life. It's the best kind of stinky cheese. While I love the heads-up callback, the quip off in the city street museum set is kino. It's art in one of the purist ways because it has as many meanings as it has eyes on it.

Wesley Snipes/Simon Phoenix wasn't doing an offensive Asian accent for no reason, he did it because while reading a display at the museum he observes an Asian family (schoolchildren?) walking by (they're wearing gray suits with wide-brimmed hats). As they hurry by them, he starts saying "ching chong chong." Terrible, but so in-character. 😀
