The Fundamentalist Religion Where Leaving Means Losing Your Family | Brethren Church | ENDEVR Documentary
Damanhur – The Bizarre Society Nobody Talks About: https://youtu.be/feFT25YX7Z4
Former members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, also known as the Exclusive Brethren, reveal life inside a secretive religious community governed by strict rules and separation from the outside world. Those who choose to leave can face devastating consequences — losing their families, friends, and entire community. Through deeply personal stories, the documentary explores the cost of breaking away and rebuilding a life beyond the Brethren.

Open Brethren are too controlling, but nowhere near as bad as closed brethren. Sadly these expose's fail to explain that and most people do not know all brethren are not like tge closed brethren and it causes a lot of problems, accusation and gossip. I see it where I live because neighbours assume one of them is brethren bevause she won't have a tv and only has her church friends, but she has not said ehat church it is, so the rumour mill takes off. But she does things closed brethren woukd never allow, but they don't know better.

I worked for an Insurance Brokers in the UK that was owned by a Brethren family and essentially was mainly Brethren families we insured. I found it fascinating in that, they only insured their cars Third Party Only (compulsory), as they believed God would protect them. Similar things with houses, they build their own detached houses and only insured them for fire (compulsory) whilst under construction, no other insurance on them. They had detached houses, as didn't want to share drains with non brethren people, very strange.

The similarities to Jehovah Witnesses are undeniable. I feel so sorry for anyone involved in this cult especially the youth born in no choice and no knowledge to escape. If they do they’ll be shunned.

The Plymouth Brethren are not the same as ALL Brethren. This is one particular sect that is a cult.

Grace is such a scary concept to those trapped in legalism. My husband and I attended an open assembly for many years and by PB standards it was quite "liberal" but still within the pale. Closed assemblies are a completely different kettle of fish! They can and do exhibit cultish behaviour. Sad when religion supercedes the gospel.

Wow…see what happens when you don’t follow the actual Bible? Nothing in the Bilbe talks about pre-recorded music…cuz there wasn’t any. 🤣

There are different tyles of "Brethren" Churches. My parents worked as missionaries in DRCongo with a Pentecostal mission; we got on very well with missionaries of other denominations – including Brethren missionaires. Some were "Plymouth" Brethren – anyway we attended to their churches when we happened to be travelling through and they atended our meetings when they were traveliing through. We all worked together and helped each other out as occassion required.

Need to be careful about equating the Exclusive Brethren with the Open Brethren (Gospel Halls). I was was saved around the age of 22 through outreach from people who were in the Open Brethren in the East of Scotland and spent many years happily in them, when I left them to move churches they were upset and challenged me on my decision. However I am still in touch with a number of them and am so grateful for the deep Bible based background it gave me. I knew one or two Exclusives and yes they were much stricter (Biblical as they called it….)

What on Earth? I grew up Brethren and we never had those superiority ideals taught to us. My mom grew up Church of Brethren, which was a bit more strict about communion and dating, but they didn’t have this either. Wowzers. (Virginia)

So much of the behaviors remind me of Jehovah Witnesses and how they treat ex members. Some of the language is the same too. Like “new light” whenever the cult changes policy.
