Trump involved with a business scheme that involves teen girls and then having endless accusations of SA associated with said business scheme? Could never.

beauty contests for kids is genuinely insane to me. Like idk hold fashion contest instead??? like??? they're 5 they aren't supposed to be beautiful, they're supposed to be a toddler.

A few things I've learned out of curiosity and trying to understand human history.

1: Our attraction and desire for beauty partly comes from survival instincts. Obvious deformities or signs of illness once indicated poor health or genetic problems. Over time, we became sensitive to smaller and more subjective traits as well. Most people today are healthier overall than people in the past. Hence why we're ruthless to average or slightly below people today who have maybe at best a little bit big or small compared to the balance in their face of one specific feature or another.
Because of this instinct that developed into a beast of its own, beauty became a major industry because attractiveness, youth, and health are socially valued. Part of this is tied to fear of aging, illness, death, and unhealthy offspring.

2: In the past, people were expected to become adults quite a bit earlier. Children worked young, and marriages often happened earlier, mainly for family, status, or economic reasons rather than love. Marriage also did not always mean immediate sex or children. We know this both because of historical records, but also, girls in the past often reached puberty later because nutrition was less stable and body fat levels were lower. Better nutrition and health conditions we have today contribute to earlier puberty and slightly lower average body temperature due to fewer chronic infections. Seriously,, it's wild to think that our ancestors had effectively a low grade fever pretty much all the time. 37 or 98.6 is too high. 36.5 or 97.7 is the suggested new average.

We've slowly pushed the length of childhood the more modernized we get. We have more time, more nutrition and more resources to take care of younger humans longer.

Last but not least, scientifically, according to the most recent study, you're not an adult until 32. That's right, 32. Not 25. 32 is a milestone for how the brain reorients itself. 25 only looked at specific parts associated to only part of the things we consider being an adult, like prefrontal cortex. First milestone is 9 years old. Then 32, then 66 and then 84. You're a child until 9, then an adolescent until 32. An adult until 66 and then senior at 84. This of course is different depending on a zillion factors, but society wants an average anyway because that's what we work with.

And honestly, as someone in the adult stage just barely by these measurements, yeah, it makes perfect sense. And explains why people make all kinds of insanely dumb mistakes until far past when people claim someone is an "adult" and should "know/do better".

Either way, society doesn't actually know what a child vs an adult brain is in that we do absolutely nothing according to the reality of it all. Not in culture, tradition or in modern day thought process.

Tribal nations and less developed countries usually have far shorter time spans between childhood, milestones and adulthood. Because no one had time for anything in the past.

And finally, everything money touches makes it turn to sheet. Seriously. Enshittification is when something is profitable. That includes weird dumb things like child beauty pageants. Those should NOT exist. They're so insanely damaging and messed up.
Pageantry can exist with consenting adults. Body building IS pageantry. Kids should not be in pageants. They can be in skill based contests. And none of it should be for money, just, I dunno, shiniest hair with hair care + genes. Fun silly things like that.

I’ve won a beauty pageant before (I was a toddler) but i actually gained consciousness on that stage while they were lining us all up to the judges it was 2007 in a small town and I was the only darker toned child (which gave me points somehow idk) I was in the local parades for a year and still have my tiara (which is still to big for my head at 21 years old) my sash and my trophy aswell as the magnets they put onto the cars during the parade

Edit: I did enjoy it but my grandma who put me in the pageant for fun at first realized it wouldn’t be good for my self image i remember being very happy about winning and being a real princess for a bit

Wait, I feel like the whole Eris backstory sounds A LOT like "Sleeping Beauty". Wonder if inspiration for the initial story or the animated film by Disney took inspiration? Sort of like how "The Lion King" is "Hamlet" with big cats?
