Commenting only half an hour in and having not seen the movie🧂 to say that it seems like this movie is very much a Christian themed alien movie about Revelation (ie, “Disclosure”) and the return of the Messiah with the twist that it’s aliens, not God who spoke through Christ and now this new character whose last and final, authoritative Word is “His” (the aliens’). I think that’s where the religion comes in; it was said already that abrahamic religions worship a being outside of humanity (one could say alien to humanity) and so the idea I think is that the Revelation of God (in this case the Disclosure of Aliens) would be a sort of fulfilment of biblical prophecy and bring about/be a part of armageddon (hence the WW3 in the background). I think that the horror is supposed to be for a Christian (USAmerican) audience who knows that when the world ends they’re supposed to submit to God and “listen” to His Word etc blah blah blah being confronted with a hypothetical scenario where everything they knew about something that their reality is founded upon is flipped on its head and everything they hate (the Other; the foreigner; the alien) is revealed to be that which they were supposed to be worshipping (revealing themselves as the false believers condemned to eternity in hell that they so gleefully anticipated for the Other). But idk there’s also a lot of Epstein Files vibes and the rapid escalation of the consolidation of power into the hands of fascists vibes that kind of feels adjacent since there seems to be this idea of the like, “deep state” and parallels between it and satanic/demonic/hellish themes if aliens are meant to be divine like “the call is coming from inside the house” type stuff. It seems to basically be targeting and subverting the sense of identity of the American Evangelist™️ to say “hey but what if you were the baddies?”.

The mariage between christianity and the imperial institutions of the Romans has been a disaster for humanity imo, it seems totally at odds with the purported intents and spirit of its foundings

I absolutely luv and respect the two of you. So ignorant of my own indoctrination. You offer me a new perspective to consider…and yeah aliens sure who hasn't encountered them?

Spielberg remade War of the Worlds. It was originally made by Hitchcock, I think. At least from that time, it's in black and white. For its time, that version is great. I didn't see the Spielberg version. Or maybe I did and don't remember.
