5:55 Crown of Thorns Starfish outbreaks are caused by agricultural fertilizers or sewage being dumped the ocean.
They love the nitrogen it contains as it increases the phytoplankton population.
Meaning us feeding the water feeds the phytoplankton which feeds the starfish which feeds on the coral!

    I'm thoroughly horrified…
that scientists just straight up ripped all the eyeballs off of a bunch of starfish to se if that'd make them blind.
Imagine if they did that with monkeys or kittens.

The description you gave of the suction cups on the face and clamping down on your jaw as they eat you was so creepy. I once rescued a woman at a beach being attacked by a star fish over her nose and mouth. She passed out before we could get it off her face. Then she required CPR. We got it off her face and revived her but not after giving us all a new fear of sea stars. Those things are so insanely strong.

I study echinoderms at the University of Queensland and as someone who knows the literature, this is such a well researched video. You obviously put a lot of time into making sure these facts are true. The sea cucumbers at Heron Island excreting 5 Eiffel Towers of sand for example is a niche fact that shows how far down the rabbit hole you went. Thanks for putting so much effort into educating and entertaining!

you better get your facts straight!
these creatures are on earth millions&millions of years longer then Humans!
if anything, WE are the oddball/aliens on this world! … naked, psychotic monkeys, that poke around everywhere & messes with ecosytems planetwide!
…. and you feel the need to infuse your religious indoctrination into this? 🤦‍♂ this just completely invalidates anything good thats in this video! -.-

Can we just talk about that last part? Imagine being able to detach your jaw and it just flies through the air going " NangNangNangNang! " and turns on its own to go after someone trying to run zigzags to avoid it.
That is straight up a cartoon.
