The Resurrection of r/CursedImages – Tales From the Internet
After the cursed images tumblr and the cursed images Twitter, r/cursedimages became reddit’s top destination for all cursed images. But what is a cursed image? Confusion and debate over this topic, especially among newer users as the subreddit grew more popular, drove r/cursedimages into an existential crisis that affects many niche subreddits that get very large. Heavier moderation was needed to save the sub.
However, absentee moderators made it very difficult for users to pull the place back together despite the community’s efforts. Would the community be able to get r/cursedimages back on track?

Way late to this party. But to me, a cursed image relies a lot on the quality: The photo (has to be a real photo) looks like it was taken with a potato. Looks like the flash was used. The white-balance is just slightly off. And there is an overabundance of exactly one element.
The stoic man posing with his tomatoes; the collection of Lola dolls; the woman posing with the computer on the floor with the anime girl onscreen. And my personal favorite; the Elmo lounging on the bed.
Each one of these has exactly one thing that pushes it over the edge

I personally define a cursed images as an image that is uncanny and something our brain perceives as wrong even though there is technically nothing wrong with the image. For example the creepy Easter bunny pictures with kids sitting on disturbing Easter bunnies. If you break this image into its concept it’s simply a young kid having their photo taken with the Easter bunny, but the actual image is “cursed” because the Easter bunny is uncanny and off putting.
TL:DR conceptually normal images but in reality their uncanny or off putting

The best cursed images are the ones that aren't just creepy, they confuse you, to the point that you may want to know more about the origin and the background of the images.

"Dick the birthday boy" photo isn't cursed. It's funny, not cursed. I guess one could say the animatronic looks weird, but the shirt make the picture just funny.

6:30 is a good checklist- in really helps narrow down that almost uncanniness- but by those stardards the first cursed image is not cursed, though I don't think it's cursed anyways.
I'm talking about the man and the tomatoes just to be explicitly clear.
For proof
Who? Probly his wife
What? Celebrating a strong harvest. He could also just be a guy with a garden that got alot more than he bargained for.
Where? Some rural community probly, and more specifically in his house or barn or whatever.
When? I'm not good with telling time. The 90s? In a rural community it could be any time you could think of.
Why? To celebrate the aformentioned strong harvest, or to gawk at the sheer amount of tomatoes a few plants in a garden produced.
That's like 0.5/5 points: not cursed at all.

reminds me of how r/Whitepeopletwitter devolved from just funny white people tweets to just politics, reposts of jeff tiedrich tweets and just endless amounts of trump tweets, it's just sad that subs have to go through that.
