An older lady used to come in to our bar every Saturday evening and all the veteran servers would run. I felt bad and told her to sit at the bar where Id serve her personally. By the 3rd Saturday I did this for her, she was telling me a story where she ended it by saying "even a bar jocky like you could understand that…". At that exact moment, I understood why everyone would hide when she came in. The following Saturday our manager kicked her out because nobody would serve her anymore.

I have to ask, did this actually ever happen in a restaurant you were in? 20 years serving- 5 in Nashville, I never experiences a move like that, no matter how often I dreamt of it.

If Terry didn't ban them, the staff would just start spitting (and worse) into their food anyway. I've seen in real life that a wait staff can only be pushed so far. Be smart and respect the people who handle your food.

We have this one regular at the place I worked at. He would run you ragged, was extremely demanding, and sickeningly condescending. Then he’d only leave a 25 cent tip. It got to a point we would rotate every time he comes in. One person would bring his drink, another would take his food to him, another person would take extra napkins or refill his drink etc. so he didn’t have a chance to torment his server.
