The REAL Reason Scientists Know Aliens Will NEVER Visit

The Diary Of A CEO Clips | August 17, 2026

Professor Brian Greene, theoretical physicist at Columbia University and one of the world’s leading string theorists, makes a claim that challenges the deepest assumption you hold about yourself: you do not have free will, and he says this with high confidence.

His reasoning is simple and unsettling. When he looks at a person, he sees a “man-shaped collection of particles,” and every one of those particles is fully governed by the laws of physics. When you raise your hand, it is not you doing it. It is the laws of physics guiding the particles in your brain, sending an electrical signal down your arm, causing your muscle to contract. You do not control the laws that govern those particles, so you do not control the decision, and you do not control your life. The feeling that you author your own choices is, he says, a powerful and seductive story your brain tells itself, possibly because it had evolutionary utility.

He extends this to everything we consider meaningful. Concepts like caring, happiness, sadness, meaning, purpose, morality, choice, and freedom are all human-made constructs. They don’t exist out there in the universe. There is no notion of free will floating in space beyond the Andromeda galaxy. These are ideas our species invented to organize our experiences and give us a utilitarian advantage. Greene is clear that this doesn’t diminish them. He accepts his sense of self, but he sees it for what it is.

He then turns to consciousness and the afterlife. He explains the appeal of the idea that our consciousness floats off and rejoins a universal source when we die. He references Ernest Becker’s “The Denial of Death” and says these are human-authored stories to combat our recognition that we are mortal. They make us feel good, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but he thinks it’s important to see them for what they are. He believes consciousness emerges when there is enough information processing carried by the motion of particles, nothing more.

Discover:
• Why a Columbia physicist says you have no free will, with high confidence
• Why every choice you think you make is just particles obeying physics
• How concepts like meaning, morality, and purpose are human inventions
• Why Greene says heaven is a story we tell ourselves to deny death
• The reframe that turns cosmic insignificance into liberation
• Why an advanced alien civilization would never bother visiting us
• Why traveling to the future is real, undisputed physics
• Why traveling to the past would require wormholes that may not exist

Brian Greene seems to assume that once he puts the authority of physics on the table, his conclusion about free will automatically follows. Yes, the particles in our brains obey the laws of physics. But jumping from that fact to “therefore, you have no free will” is a philosophical conclusion—not an experimentally established law of physics.

Then he tells us that caring, happiness, sadness, meaning, purpose, morality, choice, and freedom are merely human constructs that don't exist “out there” in the universe. Really? Has he been out there running tests? The fact that we don't find “meaning” floating between galaxies tells us absolutely nothing about whether meaning is real at the level of conscious human experience. You don't find economics, music, love, mathematics, or the rules of chess floating around Andromeda either. That doesn't make them meaningless or unreal.

That's where this whole discussion loses me. Greene is obviously a brilliant physicist, but expertise in theoretical physics doesn't automatically settle questions that philosophers and neuroscientists have wrestled with for centuries. Presenting one philosophical interpretation of physics as though physics itself has proven it is a huge leap.

And the part that really gets me is imagining 20-year-old college students hearing this delivered with the authority of one of the world's leading physicists, then heading back to the dorm, smoking some weed, and deciding they've finally figured out consciousness, free will, and the entire universe.
    Geezzzzz.

Just because he’s a physicist doesn’t mean he knows everything. It’s ridiculous when people assume, “Oh, he has this degree, so everything he says must be true.” He’s speaking more like a spiritual guru, sharing pure conjecture based on his own perspective, and it’s contradictory too. You could just as easily grab someone off the street, and their philosophizing about these ideas would have the same weight. The laws of physics don’t explain the mind or our decisions—they’re simply the rules everything has to follow, not proof that everything was predetermined or designed before the universe even existed. He’s basically delving into “god” territory here.

Obviously space travel and time travel are the same thing. We cant actually time travel bc the earth is never in the same space ever, if you 'time travelled' to future earth in a million years, you would also be a few light years across the galaxy, which is actually space travel. Earth itself is in one place in space, at all times and moving every second 1000s/ kms per second. Meaning if you time travelled millions of years into the future, you'd have to also travel across our galaxy simultaneously. Logically, these two concepts are the same thing but he describes them as they are two seperate things

As much of a douchebag as I know Mr Greene to be from personal interactions, he’s right about free will. It’s not even a fiction, because it doesn’t even have a clear, unambiguous definition. It’s a vague concept and it does not relate to reality.

We know for a fact that aliens, good and bad, are already here doing DNA manipulation on us all and that they can shape shift within the Matrix to appear humanoid. That chapter is over. We know that for sure. We're just waiting for the good ones to destroy the bad ones…..forever…..and end this Matrix soul reincarnation loop we're stuck in thru the Moon.
