"How is this not real rap?" Because Cole is a loser still trying to flex like he was making a genius play by willingly folding but than still trying to make us think he ever had what it took to continue in the beef.

Fuck ever expecting him to get in on the beef to begin with, he's a grown man.

Its kind of odd how FD is extremely wary and skeptical of Kendricks persona, and constantly warns people not to buy into it too much (super valid), but seems to have completely fallen hook line and sinker for J Coles persona.

J Cole being the humble and chill guy is a facade too. Its his brand, and he clearly has a hard time keeping up the facade on this track and many others.

I can't process that people don't fuck with 4 your eyez only that was my soundtrack for senior year of high school and it's probably the Cole album I've engaged with the most. 10/10 for me

It's hip hop to battle, it's hip hop to respond. Cole could've responded in typical thoughtful poetic fashion and we wouldn't be upset. If his initial response was in the vain of port Antonio it would've been Cole. So to see the 7 minute freestyle it was like oh he jumped off the porch. It's why loaded lux is lux he's constantly who he is

I couldn’t possibly disagree with the Cole take bout it was bad to respond and that it isn’t in his nature. Part of that run you’re talking about included NUMEROUS bars about how he’s essentially a boogeyman. He’s destroying other rappers. Nobody can fk with him. Blah blah blah. You can’t “be mature” all of a sudden after talking allllll that sht lol. You started this video talking about living hip-hop…what part of hip-hop is that? He was supposed to squabble up with Kendrick and thennnn talk about how much he loves him.

So here’s my take on why ppl hold such disdain for Cole. Emotional immaturity. If u were to ask most people at random if they would rather a sincere apology from someone or a blatant denial of their reality, most would want the apology, easy. Re-contextualizing these same choices under the “rules of hip hop” means that ‘blatant denial’ becomes the default answer. Under the “rules of hip hop” you can only win through braggadocios means. A lot of the people consuming the beef sub genre of hip hop are emotionally immature and incapable of seeing someone apologizing as a boastful showing of strength. The standard in hip hop is faking it or what Unc has referred to as ‘Kayfabe’. You’re supposed to pretend to let sh*t talk roll off your back while responding to said sh*t talk with frigidity and venom in your words, even if you don’t want to have conflict, you have standards to be upheld(even if u didn’t create those standards) Without the ability to properly gauge what is ‘going too far’, the rap beef consumers just want to see blood. They hold no value over sincerity or raw emotion. It’s about the spectacle of seeing two people fight for the approval of their audiences by any means necessary. A modern day gladiator match, where one of these people are bound to fall on their own sword. They don’t like Cole because he challenges what they as fans feed off. They wanted to see Cole mad and he got mad… then he changed his mind bc has the presence of mind to do so and they hate him for it. They hate him for his humanity bc they discarded theirs.

Nah I'm sorry, I love ya unc, but this ain't it.

This song gives big 'out of shape dad losing a pickup game to his more athletic son' vibes.

"Oh I would have wiped the floor with you if my damn ankle hadn't been acting up."

I am not a J-Cole fan, that is why it has taken me 2 weeks to listen to the track and check out this video. But, I agree with brother Fique, and I understand what J-Cole is saying, and I do like the song when the 2nd verse gets going. The 1st verse was typical J-Cole IMO, it really wasn't doing anything for me, but I am pleased I stuck around for verse two.

I doubt that there's much that will change my mind regarding J-Cole's music. Usually when I hear one of his tracks, It just makes me want to throw on some dope shit from the 90's/ early aughts to hear superior musicians voicing some of the same concerns, and telling similar stories. I guess that's what I do love about J-Cole. He reminds of better times for Hip-Hop, and we need more voices like his these days, even if I am not a fan of his music.

Now Ye is hit or miss from his debut 2021 his music is some of the best shit hiphop has seen, now he shows he still had talent and potential but he’s too busy breathing Galaxy gas to finish his stuff you listen to Everybody(unreleased),530 was good and he fixed it,Sky City was pretty good and the Bully previews are fire so far, what he says he’s way outta left field for but but his music while RECENTLY detiriorating he’s still the GOAT at least up until 2021

The metaphor about the gun gives goose bumps, J Cole is free, Kendrick used the beef to address the current problems with hip hop and to save it– all the takes FD has given have been nuanced and great, but I think the one thing he misses from time to time is giving the alleged crimes their proper weight in the analysis. If Drake actually does to women and girls what he's been accused of (which you'd think someone in his inner circle would have a hint of) then it's kind of fucked for J Cole to say hey Drake you'll always have me by your side or whatever. Has no one learned anything from R. Kelly or P. Diddy? One thing that's always felt a bit ironic about all of this is although Kendrick's crusade to save hip hop is the worthiest of endeavors, it's about as hard to destroy evil with hate as it is for Cole to take care of his soul and a predator.

Maybe I'm way off here, but those lines sound like a guy realizing that he'd rather keep the people he respects and cares about in his life that chase clout (since that's all it would have been for *him*, not everyone involved). That he'd rather focus on making stuff he respects and feels good about then be dragged into shit he didn't even mean to start. That he's not interested in being the best at trashing other rappers.

6:03 a grown man who is at peace with himself shouldn’t be getting gassed up by twitter. He recognized that and corrected the record. Then he let it happen again with trying to have the last word half a year later, come on man

  13. @birdtunnelparty

    October 16, 2026 at 12:03 pm

So I thought him taking down 7 minute drill and the apology were both dope/correct moves on Cole’s part, but I still feel like you’re missing something with your take FD. I don’t think there’s a good reason for Cole to come back to the beef in his music after that. He said “hol up, this ain’t me, what am I doing” made his peace, and then comes back with this reopening shit. I think he’s got too many people in his ear (either around him or reading shit online) making him think he needs to keep being involved when that’s not actually what he wants for himself.

JCole is so corny its like he thinks he's some all knowing enlightened guy but he's just a pseudo intellectual with no real substance to his lyrics, he's the guy that likes to throw rocks and hide his hands for no reason other than the fact that he's not authentic in the least bit but then again no rapper is.

i dont like j cole cuz stubborn, explicit misogyny and homophobia dont mash well with anything "conscious" in my book but i had actually respected him pulling out of the beef. both his reasons for it (i dont have real hate for my brother) and the act itself removed from context (a man apologizing for his rash action and bowing out of a fight) were noble imo.
then he comes out and does this. acting like hes so above these childish games (that he was the first one to jump joyfully into), and so much better than BOTH the guys who fought and everyone who watched, he looooves his bro too much to lose him (unnamed but its about kendrick, who btw doesnt give a single fuck about his ass) and then goes to soothe drake about how much he loves him. crazy work! never seen someone spinning around like this, still acting like he has taken the high road too. bitch youre better than no one, at least drake came out to get his ass kicked.

Cole wasn’t necessarily “poking the bear” on FPS but there was a very clear tonal shift where his bars and demeanor became more combative and competitive. His musics reflected that he believed he was above all other rappers in his era. Part of the appeal of feature Cole was how unstoppable he seemed when he was rapping. So when he puts him self next to Kendrick and Kendrick says “your not on my level” we are expecting something from Cole bc he has made it clear that he thinks he is on Kendrick’s level and better than everyone else. And when he cowers this feels like a break a Kafabe from the “no MC equal Coles pen be lethal… on god the best rapper alive now go an ask the best rappers to die” type of rapper.

This!!!! I hated 7 min drill sooo much because I felt he was better than getting into beef that was getting bad fast. And it wasn’t good. I was so proud when he took it down & apologized but seeing the discourse of ppl judging a grown man taking accountability for being pressured as a human; calling maturity and growth weak, yeaaa…it’s not surprising ppl aren’t looking at this song for what it is. An artist using his talent to express and address that discourse.

It’s not a good song – he’s claiming that he got blood on him but how sway?? He declined to engage in the battle, so now that the smoke has cleared he claims that the guys just did it for likes and acclaim? Did he not listen to Kendrick’s lyrics AT ALL?

  19. @bjenksful

    October 16, 2026 at 12:03 pm

I saw Justin's video and he definitely throwing shots, but by his own admission I believe he dont mess with Cole like that anyway lol. I disagree with his and others take that Cole was poking the bear and throwing shots, he just been doing the general "Im the best" talk that rappers do. That's not throwing shots and sneak dissin. Idk why folks dont understand that.

  20. @bjenksful

    October 16, 2026 at 12:03 pm

Cole already had a lot of haters whose voices just became even louder after the apology. I'm starting to think that a lot of the people who claim the "cant mess with Cole anymore," are folks who never messed with him from the jump.

    October 16, 2026 at 12:03 pm

What is wrong with you man? Don’t you understand that once you take yourself out of a beef you were part, apologize and say you are above it all and then to come back, suck up to both adversaries, insinuate you would have won, insinuate that online media started or fueled the beef, seem to support Drake’s and his cohorts’ disses against Dot, etc. that people will find you annoying and consider you gaslighting? Either you are being willfully ignorant or deliberately obtuse. You think you are right and the whole other world is wrong? And your say Jay lost the battle pretty handily? Are you kidding me? No major rap beef or rivalry has ever been won handily by any one rival. Just saying you still don’t like Cole does not prove anything.

Bruv, I'm a huge Cole fan, but I gotta say, considering you are obviously not a fan, this is like the best breakdown of this song I seen anywhere. You listened and understood the bars, not on some agenda shii, but as a grown man who listens to hip hop.

I'm gonna watch a lil of this later, so I can't really comment on what dude is saying but honestly y'all should have been known Cole's work. It's unfortunate that people's first experience with Cole was this beef debacle.

  24. @jsun7972

    October 16, 2026 at 12:03 pm

Yes people gassed up Cole. But can you blame them when you listen to how Cole has been talking about how deadly his pen is. People wanted to see Cole back up all that shit he's been saying for years. Then he drops 7 Min Drill and that shit was not great.
