Friday the 13th started as a very popular series of slasher movies where Jason Voorhees stalked teenagers through the woods and somehow morphed into Friday the 13th: The Series in 1987, a show that had nothing to do with the series of films.
But just like the Friday the 13th movies, Friday the 13th the series had it’s own share of controversy and problems.

I was a movie loyalist and avoided the show, regretfully now all these years later. Thanks for the great retrospect on the entire franchise! It's still one of my favorites. I'm looking forward to new movies! The prequel seems interesting. And yes… I did watch some of "Freddy's Nightmares." That's what I meant about being a movie loyalist, or in this case, the character.

I watched Friday the 13th the Series right after Freddie's Nightmares right before The 3 Stooges. I don't like the movies so I was happy to see the show was NOTHING like the movies. Plus, the guy who plays Lewis is also the same guy who played the demolition man in the Twilight Zone episode with Robert Redford as Mr. Death.

Why they chose the title is the mystery. Awesome show! Saw every episode as they aired. My family ended up loving the show too. It's scary enough to keep you enthralled but is also a cozy, coffee drinking, intriguing and unpredictable Sunday afternoon delight.

Friday the 13th was aired in the Philippines on New Vision 9 in 1989, before it was again renamed RPN 9 in 1996. People say that if Jason is in the series. But the story is different until the final episode in 1991. My brother said it is about bad luck. Is not the same in the movie.

Thank you, Mr. Ebert, for succinctly describing why we love this franchise so much. 🙂

If I made a Friday the 13th series, I would make an anthology of scary stories, including slashers, happening in Crystal Lake… maybe told by a group of kids around a campfire a la Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Love this show even though I remember being disappointed it had nothing to do with Jason when it first aired. Also, unless I’m missing something you are totally mispronouncing the name “Mancuso”. Man coo so, not man q so. Just saying lol

Tipper Gore and her gang of Super Karens are just as responsible as any "right wing church groups" for the "Won't anyone think of the childern"
Censorship craze of the 90s…
Reverend Lovejoys wife in the Simpsons was basically a stand in for Tipper and the "RTC" group in WWE was a direct parody of her group who were also trying to get Wreslting taken off the air during that time…

This show, Tales from the Darkside, War of the Worlds (The series), late '80's, early 90's genre TV for the growing nerd I was, and would become. I tell my kids about these kind of shows I watched when I was their age and they don't believe me that they're real.

Watched that along with the War of the Worlds. Yeah, the time moved did the show in. Then, I'm trying to stay up watching Freddy Nightmares a whole different story!

You really didn't talk much about the show itself. It was more of a dissertation on Paramount and Jason Voorhies

Oh my gosh, this is such a treat! I've been waiting to see this one! The main Friday the 13th films I like are the first 3. Outside of them it gets a little bit repetitive but this TV show was awesome! Thank you so much for covering it! Plus, it's a lot like a Goosebumps version of a hollocrux hunt! This was a great show! I'll have to look up that DVD set!

You all need to get the book about the series. The author goes episode by episode with interviews from cast and crew.
