There’s a feeling you’ve most definitely had before, but maybe never knew how to describe. It might have come after a promotion you’d spent years chasing. Or after buying something you convinced yourself would absolutely change your life. Or perhaps after finally getting the attention of the person you couldn’t stop thinking about.
And for a moment, it felt incredible. But then, something strange happened. The feeling faded. Not all at once, but just enough for a quiet thought to creep in… “Now what?”

I made myself a Monk about twenty five years ago without even being aware of it at the time (i mean i refuse to chase the want part of myself to the degree that i am basically living like a Monk) and i still do not feel happy yet. What is happiness really… Life is a weird thing and i still have no idea why we are here.

In a strange way, the rejection kept the desire perfectly preserved, reloading itself over the years because it was never allowed to run its course and dissolve.

I felt like that about my woodstove. When you wait 30 years for a thing, and it finally materializes, then what?

The "human" part of being human is what is difficult. How you interact with others says a lot. Material "success" can be attained with a formula, being a "successful" human involves so much more than that.

Makes sense, it's why we're never satisfied no matter how much we have. And it's not just material wants.

I don’t find it comforting at all, especially when the guy who came up with the idea could not himself follow the remedy he prescribed against it. Also, saying religion isn’t the answer, then laying out the tenets of buddhism is…a choice. Other religions, for instance, Christianity, call just as much for a denial of The Will. For example, Matthew 16:24, “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”” Though this does indeed back up the idea you present that it’s a universal feeling, as The Will is being referenced there 2,000 years ago in the Middle East.

i agree with the main theme around pain and suffering being the only real things, real teachers. But id argue that it's not so much the wanting's fault, it goes deeper than that.
It's "society". A construct of millions of different beliefs, not suited perfectly to any person thereafter. Society is the only logical reason we have wants in the first place. If society didnt expect you do everything you do in a day, then you probably wouldnt.
Society expects you to work a 9-5, expects you to own and drive a car, etc.
I believe we were much happier millenia ago.

The Greek philosopher Diogenes the Cynic aka Diogenes the Dog taught similar concepts. To want is to suffer basically. Find the simple things to be happy for. Anti capitalism or anti consumerism sentiment that we need to hear more of.

14:03 No one knows what the squirrel is thinking. It’s crazy to think we have any idea about the inner experience of others. There’s just some as much proof that this squirrel is thinking about his favorite color as you saying he doesnt think about his past mistakes.

This video feels extremely familiar. I remember seeing what seemed like the same script and subtitles on 'The Temporal Nomad' channel some time ago. I can't locate that video now, so I could be wrong, but if it's a reupload or adaptation, it'd be nice if the original source were credited.

Once you find Jesus the want-get-empty-want cycle ends gradually. I found purpose and peace in surrendering my will to Jesus, and he's been taking caring of me ever since.
