The Most Misunderstood Album of 2024

Mic The Snare | April 30, 2026

After a whirlwind of Charli xcx copycat allegations and lukewarm reception, Camila Cabello released her fourth album C,XOXO earlier this year. A lot of people really don’t like it… but I do. Not only are the songs on C,XOXO better than Twitter stans would make you think, but the album actually reveals something about the state of pop albums in 2024.

MORE ABOUT C,XOXO
C,XOXO is the fourth studio album by Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello, released in 2024. The album explores a blend of hyperpop, reggaeton, and 2000s-inspired hip-hop, with lyrical themes centered around nightlife, friendships, and personal growth. The record reflects Cabello’s connection to Miami, where much of it was recorded, and incorporates the city’s cultural and musical influences. Collaborations with artists such as Drake, Lil Nas X, and PinkPantheress contribute to its varied sound. The production, led by El Guincho and Jasper Harris, emphasizes experimental elements and Auto-Tuned vocals.

I think the Rosalia comparison is kind of racist coming from a Mexican. I think it’s odd comparing from “similar” things when nothing besides both of them speaking Spanish is the only thing in common. Camila isn’t trying to be anyone but herself. She’s quirky and always says the wrong thing when she means well. Camila is a great person and comparing her to a Spaniard is crazy. Love Rosalia and Charli! And Camila is good friends with both so going back to one of your points, why are we comparing women when none of them invented anything new? Sure Rosalia and Charli are incredible musicians but down playing Camilas writing, singing and dancing abilities are insane and what’s worse is she actually had an amazing discography but people are choosing to ignore over old and false accusations of Camilas “racist” past when all she did was reblogs edgy jokes at 13, which she apologized for back in 2013 and again in 2013 OR spreading misinformation that she used the n word and called normani that when in fact Normani stans themselves have admitted to a lot of those being photoshopped or faked. So Camila can do no wrong on my book, she is proved to be a great artist and she got Beyonces stamp of approval with this albums. So C, XOXO tilidie!

I don't live in the US and I'm not American. So I'm not familiar with Drake stuff. I've listened to a few songs from this album. And to be honest, they are very, very bad songs. I have no reason to misunderstand. Musics are terrible, lyrics are terrible. Easy peasy… I heard she wrote the all songs right? So she shouldnt again.

Coming back to this video since the album is now blowing up on tiktok and people are giving it its flowers.
Another proof of how media affects our perception on music, and a reminder of having a mind of our own.

I like videos where mr Snare shares a baffling opinion. I would never agree with this opinion in a million years, but I like hearing his defence of it. and it's almost compelling evidence as long as I ignore the fact that I have ears.
Oh also a big positive you haven't mentioned, throughout most of the album Camila listens to critics, and avoids her horrible grating upper register. Good job Camila, you did something that isn't immediately reprehensible.

6:55 good luck with that , despite joker 2 already being factually terrible in every single way that the only way to praise it is if you speak like those pretentious art critics
    7:53 that's a man named walter btw

this album just shows how overrated brat is tbh, and that album is more forgettable than anyone will admit
and at least CXOXO wasn't sacrified as a political tool either ooooooh that would be really bad.

I luvvvvvv'd this era for Camila. I agree, when I listen to the music, I too try to figure out where the music wants to go. It's a spontaneous, beautifully weird journey to my ears. I love Camila Cabello. I believe in her! She is a true blue Artist; "Say hello, it's you, the purest you." (Magdalena Bay reference <3.) @micthesnare

I like how you don’t parrot the same opinions and you actually speak for yourself and your own unique opinions, it’s refreshing to see in the music reviewing community 😀

I can understand this take because for some reason I have taken to Headphones On by Addison Rae. It’s such a vibe of a great pop song of literal escapism, of wishing to run through the wilderness riding a horse while you take count of your blessing but noting your struggles. It’s very fresh, and feels similar enough to this album even if Addison Rae’s album is more dream pop.

for everyone whose hateristis was tingling because the MV reminded them of Rosalia's EMQ era, it's because they were produced+directed by the same company.
EDIT: OMG HE BROUGHT UP THE ROSALIA COMPARISON BRUH I KNEW I WASN'T TRIPPING

June Gloom and B.O.A.T. are such excellent emotional pop songs. Camila's vocal delivery in them is so crucial to it I can't imagine anyone else singing them

fun fact: underscores (hyperpop musician/internet music nerd darling) has been covering B.O.A.T. on her opening slot for Porter Robinson's Europe tour. is underscores a Mic the Snare viewer?
