The expanding universe is just a theory. There are other theories that state that the universe is not expanding, so it will maybe never die. The latter theory says that the Milky Way could be in a big void, and thus it seems to us like other galaxies are getting away from us but maybe they are just orbiting denser places of the universe.

Actually black holes can still sustain civilsation for a while longer, especially rotating ones. Maybe by that time we figure out a way to reverse the 2nd law of thermodynamics
