American squatters rights are wild, in most of the world that would be criminal trespassing, but nope, apparently if you go on vacation in America and forget to lock your doors some MF can just move in and it's their house now?

but yeah, i dont think theres anything wrong with getting people who abuse the system out of these homes so those who need it and own it can have it. But i just find this content is incredibly dangerous.
Not just for the creators but the squatters too.

"Squatters rights" were made to protect people.
It encourages good use of space so people cant horde the finite resource of land, and prevents negligent owners who let these homes that could be keeping people safe, deteriorate.
allowing those who have nowhere to go and found an abandoned home to shelter in and care for it.

And while the people who make this content are supposedly doing their due diligence, there are a large majority of people who will see this and take this as a go ahead to harass unhoused people. Making their already harrowing lives much more difficult and dangerous.
Because in our country, we dont see unhoused people as actual people that need help. we see them as objects to ignore at best, and a leech/blemish to get rid of at worst.

So while i dont think you're a bad person, i think that shining a light on this can only do more harm than good on an already vulnerable population.

And on a more personal note, this video just made me really sad.
I cant really laugh or smile at this style of content, i am just constantly thinking about the people these videos will indirectly affect in the future.

I have the solution. put the squatter in prison now they have a place to live rent free.

Squatters rights. If a home appears abandoned and you fix it up get electricity and water on, get mail there and live there for a year uninterrupted and can show that you’ve done these things the home should be yours. The title should be forfeit and you should be able to have it transferred to you in your name for next to nothing. Fuck these harassers. Too many homes go un-lived in for years only to fall into disrepair. Theres a housing crisis happening world wide and more extreme weather every year.

Also as an aside fuck the scammer guy renting out other peoples homes. Thats just cruel.
