The impossible song we’ll remember in 500 years

David Hartley | April 27, 2026

Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is one of the most popular songs of all time, but the way it was created is just as incredible as the song itself.

I imagine there indeed would have been a recorded metronome of some sort early on in the recording process used as a click track, which then would have been erased later so the track could be used for something else.

Nobody plays the solo like Brian May does. There seam to be a lot of rhythmic "imperfections" (so is my feeling at least), while everyone, who is trying to re-interpret it, just sticks to "dummy rhythm", which sounds flat and boring.

Fascinating stuff. Anybody else spent the past 50 years thinking that just before 'Nothing really matters' the band were singing 'New Year, New Year' instead of 'Ooh Yeah, Ooh Yeah' ? I am now going to have to re-listen every song I have ever heard.

I've heard this song performed at karaoke multiple times, and it's always a disaster. I think people severely underestimate how hard it is to sing. Do not ever attempt to sing this song for the sake of the audience.

In 500 years the planet will Look very different. It would be nice to think Humans will manage to survive climate breakdown, the destruction of all natural habitat and ecosystems. If we do survive this somehow I don't think humans will be listening to Queen.

So… the gong at the end is to cover up Freddie's F-bomb?
This will always be a great song, and a good example of a talented person who had a clear passion for creating music.

The crash cymbal wasn’t just a pitch change it didn’t exist. They had to slow down the tape to get it to go higher pitched to win played back at normal speed so somebody was actually probably playing with the trim of the tape speed or putting thier hand on the wheel to physically slow it

It’s interesting how One Winger Angel by Uematsu Nobuo was written in fragments and didn’t come together until it was programmed into the music sequencer, and many fans of the Final Fantasy franchise think it’s the greatest composition. It’s certainly one of the most unconventional pieces.

Ya know, I think we've all heard this track so many times, how different it was. But, I think what gets lost…is Brian May and his just unbelievable guitar work! His leads are just so perfect! So powerful yet melodic. I don't know if many other musicians could have produced what he did.
Next time you listen to the entire track, listen to what May created. He's one of those guitarists that I think gets overlooked and is so underrated. Much like how John Paul Jones is underrated!

Another song to dissect the vocal harmonies is 10CC’s “I’m Not in Love”, where the “synth pads” thoughout the song were actually multitracked vocal harmonies

I remember when this song was first released. My older sister had it. I was 10 years old at the time. I had never heard anything like it before. But then again, neither had anyone else.
