AMONG THE LIVING was the album that instantly made me an Anthrax fan & as a drummer Charlie Benante is still one of my all time favorite drummers! I've seen him 3 times with Anthrax & once with Pantera!

In Chile, Anthrax is a religion… Chile is your home, Charlie… We're waiting for you to come back for another concert and raise hell once again πŸ€˜πŸ€˜πŸ€˜πŸ‡¨πŸ‡±πŸ‡¨πŸ‡±πŸ‡¨πŸ‡±

As I got older I appreciated his unique compositions over time. There are many little variations and he plays them quickly so you won’t notice unless you stop and make an attempt to. The original speed on many of the among the living songs is fast also so you can appreciate the technical chops. I’m not a fan of Charlie’s straight ahead beats that he plays over the main verses of many of the songs. They are boring to me but I think that is just preference. I also think Scott Ian plays some good riffs but some of them are simplistic to my ears. That said the overall soundscape of this album and persistence of time equals two excellent albums that I can always go back to.
One of my favorite Charlie drum tracks is keep it in the family. Slow, crunchy and very creative. That song evokes a strong response because of his performance.

Benante and Lombardo. The two Kings forever. I hold them in equal reverence. Growing up with Anthrax and Slayer made my teen years livable when nothing else mattered. I will always cherish Charlie Benante and Dave Lombardo for setting such a high standard for everyone else to come after.
