The Tick is a big blue superhero and comic book series created by a high school student in New England. The Tick has also had 3 different adaptations on TV including a cartoon that aired on FOX KIDS.

While the TIC was kind of thought of as having the potential to be the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it didn’t quite work out that way.

And that’s just fine.

    Love, love, love The Tick!!!

About 20 years ago I knew a guy that would go to storage locker auctions. He would find some crazy stuff and ask me to sell it for him since I run an eBay store. Most of the stuff was alright, some was junk and sometimes it would be outstanding.

One time he brings over a small stack of New England Comics newsletters and asked me if they were worth anything. I started flipping through them and there it was. Number 14. Couldn't freaking believe it! Ended up selling it for a great number of dollars for him and also received a healthy commission. I photocopied the whole thing so I could always remember it. And prove that I had one in my hands!

It's also worth mentioning that Christopher "Jackson Publick" McCulloch got his big break as a staff writer on the Tick. I've always thought of "The Venture Brothers" as a sort of R-rated spiritual successor to "The Tick".

The tick was hands down my favorite cartoon as a child, to me nothing was more fun than the crazy heroes and villains, the midnight bomber what bombs at midnight was my guy. When I found out The Tick was a comic I begged my parents to use their credit card for a month and the original three issues were my first eBay/online shopping purchase, the dial up modem connection screeches never sounded as sweet as they did that day.

I was OBSESSED with The Tick animated series when I was a kid. It came on late at night on Toon Disney for like 3 or 4 years in the late 2000s and I loved it so much. I wish there were easy ways to find episodes to watch

Hmmmm… BatManuel became the mayor of Gotham several tears later, Ben Edlund wrote for a show called Gotham. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

Very nice recap. I drew the Tick comics for New England Comics for over ten years. The year The Tick Amazon show came out, there was a gigantic presence at San Diego Comic Con. The whole cast of the show, they made a big outdoor set, tons of giveaways, lots of artists, the voice actors from the cartoon, actors and creators from the Fox live action show all were there to celebrate. Most of them signed for free at the NEC booth throughout the weekend. I remember Jackie Earl Haley and Michael Cerveris were really into the comics. It was a great week. Ben still owns the character, so there's always the chance he'll want to do something again. The most recent Tick story appeared in the latest issue of Planet Comics, and there will be another one on Kickstarter soon.
