The History of the Pony Express

Weird History | April 14, 2026

Before email, there was snail mail. And before snail mail, there was horse mail – the Pony Express. Yes, when it came to staying in touch with folks back east, residents of the wild west had to rely on a team of riders whose job was as dangerous as it was fascinating.

Even though it only lasted a short time, it certainly served its purpose. And the riders who delivered the mail for the company were legendary heroes.

My family used to joke that my great grandmother was ungrateful when she would complain about her e-mail being too slow, back in 2005, saying she should appreciate not having to send mail via horse anymore. She wasn't around for Pony Express, but it was a fun joke that made her smile. Miss you, great gramma! ❤

People in the 1800s were terrible at recording things to preserve history. They should have taken pictures of the inside of general stores and Mercantiles, hotel rooms, stables, and other businesses, downtown areas of towns and cities, courtrooms and courthouses, social gatherings, and everything else you can think of. We certainly do it today. I wish I could see more of that the old west was really like.

The fifth step is to mix basil in the Mac & Cheese, melt the shredded cheddar cheese on top (with the microwave), put parmesan cheese on top of that, and then put the Willie Scott sauce (the chilli sauce and tiger sauce mix) on top of that.

11:24 My dormitory number at the University of Missouri was 308 (308 Stafford Hall), I lived there for my first semester until my roommate and I found an apartment in the public.

Ironically, that dormitory address was the place I received my first Amazon package on August 28, 2002.

Continuing a Weird History recipe sequence!

Will think about the fourth step for Willie Scott Mac & Cheese*†…while watching this Weird History video!

    * Inspired by the Weird History video "How Mac And Cheese Became an All-American Dish"

† Thomas Jefferson was the famous promoter of Mac & Cheese, he led the Lousiana Purchase, and the University of Missouri was the first university in the Louisiana Purchase.

This whole video and no mention of the famous Hashknife Pony Express! A company that still exists as the Aztec Land and Cattle Company. Who happen to be the largest private land owner in Arizona, and own the Apache Railroad.

This is wrong. Benjamin Franklin wasn't ever stuck by lighting. Matter of fact electricity was discovered by Groo five thousand years before Ben. When he was struck and killed by it.
