The Adventures of the Gummi Bears came along at a weird time in Disney’s history, after they tried to go more adult and after they were almost bought out.
And it was a gamble, Disney had never attempted anything like The Adventures of the Gummi Bears before.

It was a good show. I always really enjoyed the medieval fantasy part of it.

I loved the show. I loved the whole Quick tunnels and the feeling of this civilisation that had almost died out. I always wanted them to find more Gummi Bears

I remember Gummi Bears and Wuzzells very well. It aired as part of Saturday morning "magazine" shows on ITV here in the UK I believe, slotted in between interviews with current pop stars and the performances of their newest records. Gargoyles were on the same sort of show in the 90s but as I was working Saturdays, I only caught the earliest episodes before I started work, but they changed the time of airing and I wasn't able to see the whole series until it was released on Disney+ here.

Gummi Bears stood out to me as a kid because it had the fantasy aesthetic I didn't see in most other Saturday morning cartoons.
I could tell the others were not as well animated, but that didn't detract from Thundercats or the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon I also loved. We all remember seeing parts of the landscape in cartoons that you knew were going to break away for some reason, because the ink they used for the animated breakaway part didn't match the ink they used for the background. We could tell the kinds of cartoons where that would happen and the ones where the animation was just better all around, even if you didn't understand why.
And just like all of them, the memories of the show are almost gone except for a few key scenes that stuck with me for one reason or another. With Gummi Bears it was an episode that mimicked Brigadoon (my mom pointed that out to me), ending with the heroes staying in the city as it faded away for another 100 years, and thinking, "well that was dumb, the next episode they're just going to have to pretend that never happened."
I also recall Wuzzles; I remember Bumblion defending Butterbear's green thumb, saying "No way, Butterbear was taking care of it, and she could make cement grow!" In 40 years I still haven't found an opportunity to use that line, but I ain't dead yet.

Of all the 1980's Smurf-a-like series, not only was it actually good, it completely beat the Smurfs at its own game and came off the superior cartoon series. The stories were better, the characters were better, the animation was better. And this is from someone who considers himself a big Smurfs fan. I'm sure Disney would have settled on TV animation in time, but that decision was legendary. Think. No Disney TV Animation, no Darking Duck, no Ducktales, no Phineas and Ferb. WB probab;y wouldn't have followed suit, so no Animaniacs either. This was the start of a revolution.

Back then I could envision Gummi Bears as a D&D campaign. I had the Gummi Bears and D&D cartoons respectively. I was set!

I didn't see it as very different as it blended in with Wuzzles, Ewoks, and Carebears, and the various fuzzy cute cartoons of the '80s.

One of my favourite all-time cartoons! …right up there with MotU, Transformers, and Real Ghostbusters.
The animation was pristine until they finally made the final season. Then it was fugly, but I guess I was happy to see it finished.

I accidentally ruined my sister's Easy Bake Over by dropping a plastic figure of Gruffi in it. I think it came from a Frosted Flakes box if I remember correctly. It melted, sticking to the light bulb in the oven and fused to the inside.

Removing Eisner was a huge mistake. Disney become a bloated recycling machine of other IPs instead the innovative force they were under Eisner and Walt. Disney has been steadily going downhill ever since. There is not one lasting IP that’s been created since just a few flashes in the pan.

It really is a pity that not very many people remember too much about the Gummi Bears outside of maybe the bears themselves and the juice. It also frustrates me that the other Disney Afternoon shows such as DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, and Rescue Rangers are more highly regarded and promoted more in merchandising. Gummi Bears was Disney TVA’s Mickey Mouse, the one that started it all. Those shows wouldn’t even exist if not for Gummi Bears being a success. It had lore, high quality animation, and an amazing cast of characters and talented VAs. It really is one of those shows that is deserving of a revival, as the story was never really properly finished. We never got to see the Great Gummies return, or how the Gummies rebuild after Gummi Glen was left in shambles, we never got to see Cavin become a knight or Calla become her father’s successor, and I remember reading that they had considered doing more, such as Igthorn possibly being knocked down a peg and forced to take orders from a new villain. There’s so much more to the story of the Gummi Bears and their friends that can be told!

I was a couple of years too old for this show but luckily had a pair of younger brothers who were the perfect audience for this show, so I ended up seeing (and loving) a show I probably would have otherwise ignored.

It's a real shame Disney never gave the show a proper home video release. There was a partial DVD release, but at least one more volume was needed for a complete release. I seem to remember some reviews saying the sole DVD release did not look as good as it should have on DVD, but I don't have the DVDs so I can't confirm
