It was very brief. If you blinked, you missed the cartoon starring Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky and Bo Jackson as aspirational crime fighters called The PROSTARS.

A full marketing blitz was planned as was an unorthodox network partner. But all of that fell through and we were left with a blink and you’ll miss it season of PROSTARS

    As a kid, I wasn't a huge sports fan, but I remember that Michael Jordon and Wayne Gretzky were huge icons, and I think that Gretzky is part of why I started to watch Hockey more as a teenager. Either way, though, I remember the NBC cartoons very well, and this sounds like a ridiculous one that might be good to look up on YouTube in the future. I wasn't a huge fan of Jackson myself, but I send his fans respect. I'm just not big on Football, though. However, I can certainly understand why they wanted three main stars, as the old saying goes, "Good things come in 3s!”

    i SWEAR there was a sega videogame of this too. its a game ive been looking for ever since i was a kid but nobody knows about. i thought it was Power Team at first, but no, it has to be this

    I remember the cereal. In Gretzky's autobiography, he relates how a fan actually came to his house and asked for an autograph. Gretzky signed the closest thing he could find with his face on it – a ProStars cereal box (he actually ate the product explaining that he wouldn't endorse something he didn't actually use). After the fan had left, he realized he'd already eaten half the box. It was a different world then…

    i was in 7th grade when pro stars came out.
    at the age of 12 in 1991, it wasnt “cool” to still watch cartoons but the athletic and jock types in my class were obsessed with pro stars.
    it was an alright show, but i was instead watching the launch of nicktoons: doug, rugrats, ren and stimpy.

    I totally remember watching it. And as a little nerd kid, it was really the only reason I knew who those sports legends were. I thought it was a cool idea to make athletes superheros. They already are faster and stronger than most people, and that's a superhero to me.

    I like how Jordan couldn't be arsed to have his voice recorded for ONE episode.
    If this was produced today FanDuel would be a producer/sponsor.
    Gretzky still holds the record, in the NHL, for most records held by an individual; 61 at retirement, 55 today.

    I definitely remember watching one episode of this at my grandparents house with a cousin or two, and it being one of those weird things that just stuck in my brain for no discernible reason.

    Was this also the year NBC took over broadcasting the NBA from CBS because I think Pro Star aired on NBC right! Maybe they got this cartoon also due to NBA NBC deal

    I was 4 when this was new, I distinctly remember the theme song. I also remember all the dream team ads around this time so I associated Michael Jordan with both the cartoon and McDonalds.

    If they made another PROSTARS mini series, here's some of the characters I'd like to see:

    1. Ash Barty
    2. Lionel Messi
    3. That guy who helped the Philadelpia Eagels break the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl winning streak
    4. LeBron James and Stephen Curry

    I’m pushing 40 and this show is one of those touchstones for people in my age group. Amazing memories from the era where Saturday morning cartoons were still must see tv.

    For me in South Carolina, the Fox and WGN/pre-WB, pre-UPN line-ups were more weekday afternoons. I switched between ABC 2, NBC 4, CBS 5, and Fox 24 on Saturday Mornings as shows like Muppet Babies, Garfield, Wish Kid starring Macaulay Culkin, Yo Yogi! and such lost to Ninja Turtles, The Pirates of Dark Water, Darkwing Duck, Beetlejuice, Tom & Jerry Kids, and Taz-Mania. I had cable, so the basic “Big 4” networks were all I had at the period. WMMP/UPN 36, WGN/WB, WCBD/ABC 2 (now NBC) (channel 4), WTAT/Fox 24 (channel 6), WCIV/NBC 4 (now ABC) (channel 8), WCSC/CBS 5 (channel 9), WITV/PBS 7 (channel 11), with the later addition of WCIV/MyNetworkTV 36 were my stations. A Fox station in my area had both Ninja Turtles, Toxic Crusaders, Captain Planet, and Duck Tales back then. Pro Stars was originally intended to air on ESPN initially called All-Stars, then Superstars, before settling as ProStars. It was offered to ESPN as a way to potentially broaden their Saturday Morning appeal with younger viewers. It aired on NBC Saturday Mornings from September 14, 1991 to August, 1992 (the last episode aired on December 7, 1991) and while 13 episodes/shows aired it, it wasn’t renewed for the 1992-93 season, not entirely the fault of ProStars. NBC was already dealing with their Saturday Morning cartoon block, cancelling all the cartoons, before the 1992-93 fall season began. It later aired in reruns on cable’s The Family Channel (FAM/FAM TV) in 1992-1994, ESPN 2 from 1994-1995, MeTV in the mid-2000‘s, and on This TV as part of This is For Kids weekday morning lineup in 2012-2013.

    I watched ProStars in South Carolina during the 1990s, because it featured animated versions of Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky and Bo Jackson. The program was originally planned on having four athletes for all four major team sports: baseball, basketball, football and hockey. However, budget issues cut this down to 3, with Bo Jackson representing both football and baseball. And when I watched ProStars on NBC in it‘s original network run on the local NBC affiliate WCIV NBC 4 in Charleston, S.C.. Like fellow DIC production Wish Kid, I also catch it in reruns as played on “The Family Channel” on their FAM TV block, on Saturday mornings just after “Hey Vern, It’s Ernest!”, and before “Wish Kid”, the original “Inspector Gadget”, and “That’s My Dog“, but unlike that program, no new episodes of ProStars were ever produced.

    That's a forgotten gem. I remember watching Prostars in the early 90's. I had a small bunch of trading cards, although I was mainly collecting Baseball cards.

    I remember this cartoon fondly. It came out just a couple years after I'd gone to my first MLB game which was a Royals game during the height of Bo Jackson-mania. I can still remember my brother telling me to watch the field when Bo came up to bat. He struck out, which he did a lot. It's a memory I'll always cherish. My family did not follow hockey or NBA basketball because the KC area didn't have teams. However, Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan were still massive figures when I was a kid.
