Right at the height of the 1980’s Satanic panic, fueled by the media, there was the game Dungeons & Dragons.

It was so popular that it was only a matter of time before the networks came calling and in 1983 CBS unleashed Dungeons & Dragons, a cartoon based on the game (sort of) that aired on Saturday mornings.

The show to ask, but did they die? Or is it like book 7 Narnia magic? Or are they just like Dr Sam Beckett, and just trying to get home?

If you are looking for the action figures, know that Eric, Presto and Sheila are hard to find and pretty expensive. DM and Venger are also not cheap but they are a set and that's to be expected, Diana and Hank are still available and pretty cheap, and Bobby and Uni (a set) are starting to get rare so snap them up soon.

it's hard to believe that people were so stupid in the 80's they thought a tabletop game was 'real' and 'demonic'. while ironically, that's more like D&D now. i actually WISH it was still 'sweaty nerds in a basement' rather than overly-pc left-leaning 'fandom geek theater-kid' people playing it to 'roll to seduce lamp.' i can't think of a cringier thing than critical role.

Saying that Mazes and Monsters "starred" Tom Hanks is doing a lot of the marketing department's work for them. He's IN the movie, for sure. But he's hardly the star thereof.

People wonder why I'm pathologically allergic to starting a series before it ends, maybe it's because 90% of the entertainment I grew up with all had the worst endings ever. Or no ending whatsoever.

It's like all creators were trying for the biggest cliffhanger to rile people into demanding the show's return, or a spite snub toward anyone for ever getting invested and NOTHING in-between.

Thank you for this. This was easily my favourite cartoon when I was growing up. Sure I loved Thundercats, G.I. Joe, Transformers and Challenge of the Superfriends. But with the children angle I felt the premise spoke to me (as a child myself). I could never transform into a car but I could easily ride a rollercoaster into an alternative dimension.

It was a shame they never got home. It was just another one of those shows that left me feeling unresolved. Like Quantum Leap, The Prisoner (yeah – he kinda got home but man that was a crap ending), Gilligan's Island (don't you dare count the made for TV movies). and Kidd Video (still trapped in the Flipside) .

You forgot to mention the most important part: the great writing this series had. It was far superior to Masters of the Universe and ThunderCats, and it became a pop-culture phenomenon in Brazil. The car commercial was produced for Brazilian audiences and featured Brazilian actors.

Was Into the game and the show when it was on the air. Good times. It was due to the panic that I got my game supplies cheap and a yard sale. My dad couldn’t care less about the news, he knew dragons and knights were cool and I liked them. I still watch this show through once every few years. Lot of good memories.
