The History Behind Bridal Traditions Still Practiced Today
The tradition of two people joining together in matrimony is a tale as old as time – you get married, you throw a party, and you live happily ever after (hopefully). But how did the customs of wedding cakes, bridesmaids, bouquet tosses, and white wedding dresses come to be? Some are closely related to wedding superstitions, while others have surprisingly deep historical roots. Nevertheless, weddings are still as popular today as they were thousands of years ago, as are the wedding traditions that we still carry on.

The Israelite from the Bible, Laban, covered his daughter Leah and tricked Jacob into marrying her, after he had worked for her sister Rachel for 7 years. Jacob had to work for Laban another 7 years to marry Rachel. These are the mothers of the 12 tribes of Israel. The veil has been and continues to be significant in many cultures

In Indian cultures they wear white for funerals so brides traditionally wear red. My friend had a traditional Indian wedding and it was very long with a ton of chants/ prayers. Her dress was gorgeous. And her white husband was sitting on stage looking so confused the whole time 😂

Considering people did not bathe regularly centuries ago, I bet those bouquets of spices and herbs worked wonders. I hate body odor, it makes me nauseous.

It says Victoria "reset" the trend by wearing white at her wedding after it says white was only for the wealthy. Well, she was wealthy so wasn't it keeping the tradition? Based on the myriad knock offs of Diana's huge, and Catherine's sleek, gowns, everyone copies the British Royal bride's dresses. Also, it is not still in tradition for the bridesmaids to wear white. Outside of England, the bridesmaids wear a color and dress that the bride chooses and it is usually all matching pastel or jewel colored. It sets the weddings color or colors. In the movie Steel Magnolia' , for example, the mother's friends ask what the bride's colors are and Shelby says something like "blush and rose" and her mother says, with a look of chagrin, "in other words pink and pinker". In The Godfather, Connie's bridesmaids all wear the identical dress and floral hat in peach.

Fun fact – in medieval noble weddings, attendants, usually female, actually had to be in the room and watch while the bride and groom had their first sex on the wedding night. This was so there would be proof that the marriage was consummated.

This is why my marriage is full of bad luck! Too many family deaths and dramas after my marriage with the US husband became there was no wedding ceremony
This is why there’s a lot of divorces because they don’t believe on old superstition

I searched for this topic as white weddings and their whopping expenses have gone over the top with many financial debts to start married life.
This video has some funny moments. Thanks for sharing.
