The Hawaii Five-O Scene That Went Too Far

Looper | February 3, 2026

Peter Lenkov’s “Lenkov-verse” is filled with fan-favorite shows like “Magnum”, “MacGyver”, and “Hawaii Five-0.” But as beloved as they are, it doesn’t make them immune to off-screen controversies. Between pay disputes and inappropriate on-set behavior, actors have quit, and even Lenkov was fired from his own shows.

However, the behind-the-scenes behavior of the cast and crew is nothing compared to one Season 10 episode of “Hawaii Five-0.” In a decidedly unpopular storyline about long-running character Danny Williams, not only does the situation he finds himself in come across as unbelievable, but Danny acts completely out of character from what the viewers have come to expect.

This is the Hawaii Five-0 scene that fans agree went too far.

Kono was always my favorite character love the actress aswell, I long long time ago watched the show, I remember few things of it, I had rewatched to show few days ago it's still felt pretty new since it's been years.
The thing is though with the characters even if supporting characters like the one playing chin got a lot even new characters like Lori. Kono is being treated as side character she always tech girl and not in the action not even when saving Steve in season 2 like the ending scene of that episode when they all with Steve in the helicopter and even chin announce he getting married and it ends there but where is Kono . This might be the last straw,it's so f annoying.
She one of the main characters but treated like that .

Every show has its good episodes and its bad. I watch for episodes that dig into Hawaiian sovereinty, like with Bumpy. No other show has reminded us that Hawaii is an occupied nation & this show touched on it. My favorite episode is the one where Kono is trying to canoe to each Island, which her disabled mom did before her. The storms and her eventually having to use her skills to just pull through was exciting and really put the actress through a lot. I was so sorry that the two Asian actors left because of a pay issue. They certainly were as important as the two white
actors to the storylines. We still watch the reruns. I do not like the emphasis on the military. Hawaii is much more than that.

I also felt that they were short and dismissive with this storyline. To have presented a new love interest for Danno, and then taken her away in just a few minutes was wayyyy off …. On a brighter note, here are my top five H5-0 episodes of the 10 year run:

    1. The Pilot — well constructed and edited, and gave us a new McGarrett who was driven and hell-bent to nail the bad guys
    2. The Frame — in Season 2, Episode 1 McGarrett must go on the run after being charged with the murder of the Governor
    3. The Pearl Harbor story — Steve must help a Japanese soldier to find the truth about the killer of his Father
    4. The Death of Joe White — McGarrett and his trainer/mentor in their fight against assassins ends sadly in an unforgettable sunset scene in Montana
    5. The Final — Steve surprisingly leaves 5-0 in search of new beginnings. An extremely impactful final scene is lifted when Catherine, his true love joins him at the Airport

it's unfortunate that Grace and Daniel left the series, what makes it even more absurd is the fact that Kono left Adam because of a case involving human trafficking. if you know H50 so well, you know how Kono went to great lengths to protect Adam and to be with him from season 3 to season 4. In season 4, you know how hard she tried to find him just so they could be together. and then all of a sudden, she just left the island, including Adam without telling everyone just so she could save some strangers?? I don't know if the director forgot about this, but isn't the very first episode of H50 about human trafficking and it's basically her first case?? and not only that, there is also another case in an episode where a daughter of an official is being sold and that episode is pretty much about human trafficking as well (s*x slave), why isn't Kono triggered in this episode then? so, Kono leaving because of this case doesn't make sense at all. like, Ok you care about the well being of those girls, but what about Adam? the one you risked your life for in the early seasons?? seriously, Grace's last episode didn't sit well with me, it's like, you went off the grid in the middle of nowhere, trying to hide from the yakuza, you went to hunt every last member of yakuza that was targeting you, and you went from state to state just to find Adam so you could go home together, and then all that suddenly doesn't matter anymore cuz you eventually left Adam for some strangers. it's like all those efforts Kono had done were in vain.
at this point, killing off Kono in the last episode would make more sense even if I don't want her killed, that way, Adam and Kono's love would stay the same.
As much as I hate Daniel leaving the series, his last episode and the reason he left the island made more sense, so I still accepted it.

but maaan, Kono's reason for leaving the team didn't feel right to me. 😢

Weirdest show ever . Great action and stunts, but I think that Hawai has become the most dangerous place om earth . And being a policeman here the faster way to the grave . And to think they were founded to stop serious crime .Well , I think they could try harder .Most dead People per episode . But again , I can't get enough of it .

This show tops violence … cops that use guantanamo bay interrogation settings , reckless disreguard for public safety and extended police protocol that would make these guys paramilitary and in violation of the geneva convention in every respect … dumb ass show !!!

Actually the last episode didn't Air in 2017 🤣🤣 it ended April 3, 2020 if you are going to make a video you should most likely get your information correct 🤷‍♂️ it takes away all other "Information" you include in this video

I feel there was heavier episodes. Especially with those revolving children. There's a specific episode where a few children were put in trafficking but in the end Steve cries knowing that he won't be able to rescue them because he's too late.

This?? This is the scene that went too far????!!!! I take it people don’t really watch the show lol. I’m rewatching the seasons again. I hate that Chin and Kono left but I also enjoyed that the show didn’t try whitening it up. That cast added Maōri and more Asian ethnicity. 👏👏. Thank you for keeping it a true melting pot that the show was and represented. I Freaking Love the show SINCE DAY 1.

I truly love the new Hawaii 5-O but prefer episodios without Danny he is too annoying his character don't add but subtracts my opinion. I don't remember MaGarret partner being so terrible or like this in original. They could change character for new one but didn't need to make him so annoying.

I'm beginning to tire of this hawaii 5 0…weird closeness between Steve and mum Doris…..daughter ok.but son? Idk. Also tiring is all these repetitive mention of connections to Afghanistan, North Korea, etc..and theres the never ending connection & mentions of Wolfgang…are mcgarett and his team the only citizens of hawaii? Episodes are only always about them
..always same.setting the town hall…that monstrous statue on front of the town hall…it is so money tight budget one can tell from episodes that are soooooo repititive in names, scenes, villains, they can oh so easily raid a house….their suspects so quick to confess..just tiring…to watch and cringe cringe cringe

I have no problem with an extremely sad episode if is well made but this episode was garbage. And it is not even about the lack of realism. The whole series is like that and I still enjoy it because it is fiction but come on, this particular episode was an insult.

Too music videoish, and too video gamey. And not enough real Hawaiians/Hawaiian values out front. Ive said it before and Ill say it again-its all down to the writing. If the writing had been way better than it was, this would have been way above anything else out there
