Love this show, I would watch it with my mom whenever we could sit down together to watch it. The only thing that bugged me about the show was Dorothy’s wardrobe, they put her in heavy clothes, boots and lot of the time, and Rose with the sweaters…. They lived in Miami for goodness sake, wardrobe department needed a makeover !

    Re: Dorothy's Marriage Timeline

For some reason, when I was a kid, I was absolutely convinced that Dorothy and Stan's first child died in childhood. Probably because I was also watching way too many soap operas.

They made getting older something to look forward to, not something to dread … they showed that the idea of “women in their prime” being for the ages 20s and 30s as something that didn’t exist as these women were ALWAYS in their “prime”. They proved that you don’t need to have flawless skin looking like a 20 year old forever to be seen as a hit.

Sadly, it seems we didn’t learn any lessons from this show given the state of modern shows and culture anymore.

At least it made me want to find a group of other elderly women to live with like this retiring in sunny Florida during my final years if my husband went before me lol

I used to think The Golden Girls was just comfort TV, but the older I get, the more I notice how fearless the writing actually was. They tackled topics most shows avoided, and still made it funny without losing the heart. Bea Arthur’s dry delivery next to Betty White’s innocence is such a perfect contrast that it never feels forced. It’s one of those shows where the humor pulls you in, but the honesty is what makes it last.

Blisteringly funny, ahead of its time (how many shows during that era, 1985-1992, talked about gay relationships?) brilliant acting, wonderful story lines, never boring. Ah, I love this amazing show. I still watch it every chance I get!😂😂

This is my favorite show of all time. I watch it every day. Every night before bed. Then when I actually GO to sleep, i turn on Columbo. This is the ONLY show that can still compete today. Their chemistry is a once-in-a-lifetime perfect. It has never happened again, and possibly never will. The actors, the writing, the jokes. I received the news of Bettys passing while at work. I just started crying. HARD. I was a cake decorator. I just atood there sobbing. Customers hugged me and one even cried with me. My 70yr old coworker comforted me. He was wonderful. I am just so thankful that I was lucky enough to find the girls in my lifetime. Now, at almost 40, my 3 kids watch with me. My autistic son just turned 14 and he loves watchibg it. We have a car tv and while we wait at the school bus stop in the morning, he puts a dvd in the cd player and we wtach it into we see his bus pull up. The actors werre absolutely GOLDEN.

Seems Bea Arthur was an elitist snob.
But I do agree with her about quitting while you're ahead. So many sitcoms are awesome their first 2 or 3 seasons and then get stupid.
