This is a perfect example why groove songwriting and simplicity make for incredible music. Some "virtuoso" musicians should learn from this.

Yes this is exactly why Meg Whites style of playing the drums was so special. The discipline and simplicity is exactly why it was special. A clean yet simple style that few can replicate consistently.

Growing up with and for a time working with musicians, my litmus test for friendship was how someone spoke about Meg White. While she doesnt need to be everyone's cup of tea, to deny her talent is a big red flag. In a band of 2, there is no where to hide and she was fundamental to their sound. She is tasteful & retro & unique. I knew that as soon as some of the male musicians started talking about how she sucks, that i was dealing more with sexism than music preference.

The White Stripes was The White Stripes because Meg and Jack and they made a f*cking good band together just being whatever they wanted and playing on their way. There's no band that sounds like them.

Meg as a female drummer has a classy, vintage, unique at the same time has sex appeal vibe. Congratulations to White Stripes as rock & rolk hall of fame.❤❤❤

yeah, she's faaaaaaabulous. Give me a break, people. She got the "I'm a girl" vote. You don't think she's good, you were told to say it. I was this good in 7th grade.

I’ve often noticed that when women make sparse musical choices it can get criticized as ignorance or lack of skill rather than recognized as a considered intention. You think Meg hasn’t heard her share of fills, and that she couldn’t replicate them? Jack’s style here isn’t a lot of noodling around just to show off either, and that’s why their sound was so unique, raw, and completely infectious. They perfectly complemented one another.

Keep listening to 21 pilots do 7 Nation Army and tried to sum it up (Meg's drumming) but couldn't.
Now I know it can only just about be described in a 12 minute video!

I think her style of drumming was what he needed for those songs:

Simple, elemental, and to the point.

She gave those songs EXACTLY what they needed…nothing more, and nothing less, and that's what great musicians do….🤔

Come on man there are a lot of legendary drummers in the history of drumming, all had more dexterity and skill and musicianship. You guys stick to a trend and make something bigger. She was cute and modest. But genius? come on.

I've known folks with degrees in percussion and who are educators themselves absolutely trash Meg, but they will celebrate pocket in other scenarios. I love her choices. Almost like she's aware she's there to support the song…

I mean, Jack White is a drummer. He taught her everything she knows. But through that, she learned and then it was all about their connection that made that band so damn great. But that's also why Meg never played drums again without Jack.

It seems to me she was fully aware that they were playing as a two piece band and she backed the songs simply to make them full, steady, and original.

My Duo band is learning "Black Math" and her so called simple drumming is harder than people think. She has little off beats and strange timings, it is not as simple four on the floor as it sounds. She is a wicked drummer.
