I love how we have AI doing the creative jobs, and people doing the boring shit. I thought it was supposed to be the other way around

15:13 she hulk and the witcher both have a gazillion of writers in the room…product still turned into shit with lines that almost certainly written by ai antyways…the very same thing these hacks purport the strike against. it's not the number of "writers" you can cram into the room, it's the right people with the right tallent and passion to make a good entertaining show.

I agree with you and the writers that we don't want AI "writing" movies and TV shows (and books and music) or generating images and video. I think some of the push back on writers two years ago was that we saw the end product which is formulaic, another sequel/reboot/remake/revival, about a dozen actors playing the same character (Chris Pratt plays Chris Pratt, the Rock plays the Rock, Jack Black plays Jack Black, etc.), 2-3 hours of 'memberberries, and and some social/political lecture that completely lacks a story. Obviously the writers aren't fully responsible for that; there are production studios putting out good stuff but then they get bought out by Disney instead of allowing the acquired studio to do what made them good they did Disneyfied. I want people paid what they're worth, but I'd struggle to think of much made in the last 10-15 years that I would consider worth my time and money.

6:40 i think what really showed me this part of writing was a behind the scenes argument between david corenswet and james gunn between what superman should say during the "that is my greatest strength" scene. david was fighting for superman saying the line because it shows how human and proud superman is to be a human, while james was fighting against it because on paper, it seemed clunky and on the nose. in the end, corenswet won and got the line to stay and it made for one of the most brilliant scenes

I hate that they were willing to completely abandon shows and/or move into reality TV, rather than I dunno… PAY THE WRITERS MORE!

7:40 this whole section aged really well in light of the stranger things s5 finale. that's the kind of shit that happens when way too responsibility is given to people who don't have the necessary experience to manage it.

the whole "everything is just remakes anyways" argument PISSES me the hell off because it's an actual documented phenomenon where execs will shoot down so many writers' original ideas because they're scared no one will like it and tell them to go work on a remake because that has nostalgia value. the sequel flood is NOT writers faults AT ALL.

Every single word in this video, especially about AI, is exactly what I’ve been feeling for the past few years. Perfectly said and entirely true. These “it’s just AI” bros might feel a bit different in a few years when the things they’re interested in are being stepped on by AI, and people are being framed for crimes they didn’t commit.

We’re only seeing the beginning of what this will do to us, and pretending like it’s just some little novelty now is totally minimizing its potential dangers. If we’re using AI to help find cures for cancer, maybe it’s worth the cost. But if we’re using it to make presidents play Fortnite or ads for a mobile gambling game, maybe we don’t need to spend the next few billion on a data center to further destroy anything in its path.

Ahh yes another great example of profit motivation being put first and foremost to the detriment of an entire industry. In the wake of it the industry is labeled lazy, ineffective, and greedy despite most of the profits going to outsiders that capitalized on the growth in the industry without having any real passion or knowledge surrounding the industry itself.
