In today’s episode, guest host Jonquilyn Hill talks with constitutional law professor Kermit Roosevelt about his book The Nation That Never Was: Reconstructing America’s Story, which argues that America’s most important ancestors are not the founding fathers but the heroes of Reconstruction. The two discuss the importance of founding myths, why Americans are constantly fighting over “the real America,” and what it means to be American.

I enjoyed this greatly. More so because I am currently reading Chernow’s Grant, which documents the important role of Odysseus in Reconstruction. Well done, Vox..!

Good luck with that optimism. Historically, he didn’t look at what has happened over time with other countries which are much older than America. And history has a tendency to repeat itself.

What’s America at 250…? It’s an America that heavily marketed it self, as the greatest for “The American people”.
BUT 250 years later, we discovered it wasn’t ever true AND we’re the newest addition to 3rd world countries. I know, the truth hurts.
