Online discourse has been swirling about Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Yeoh making the red carpet rounds for Wicked while looking particularly gaunt. Is this the product of fascism, or is fascism merely capitalizing on a long history of fatphobia that was already within us? Today we’re talking about the politics of bodies.

Capitalist doesn't care if your fat or thin. They just want you to part with your money.
Michael Moss is left-wing he written a books about hyper-processed foods and how the food industry manipulate food at the molecular level to get people addicted so they'll buy and eat more.

Wow this video really triggered me! I found myself defending why I do the (unhealthy) things I do to stay thin. Defending my need to be thin to feel good about myself and my standing in the world. But ewww! I’m so icked out by all of this by the end. That I’m playing their game and then defending it, if even just to myself! I’m grabbing this baton of empathy and running with it now. Thanks!

Thin is in because in America, carbs are cheap while lean meat and produce is expensive. It’s classism just like during the early 2000s where celebrities were skeletons and the average joe was being supersized. Take it from someone with diabetes. Eating healthy is NOT cheap and starvation actually makes your body more likely to hold on to fat. While GLP 1s are EXPENSIVE if you don’t have health insurance.

Timing wise I think it’s also important to acknowledge the role of the new-ish weight loss drugs that have revolutionized weight loss beyond traditional dieting or anorexia. They tend to cause a gaunt look when taken too long. Many celebs are on them, so I think that’s the biggest reason we are seeing so many skeletal famous people in the media.

The comments on this video are actually insane and show to me how much people do not listen or think critically. So many people obviously fall for thought terminating cliches. It is hurting me how much people refuse to listen and understand your points. They just willfully miscontrue those points. Sigh

How does mental illness overlap with health in a neoliberal context? It's normalized because of our grind-culture, but I don't think it taints the scrutinizing eye of a fascists. In their mind (and in mind) I feel like they would be like 'healthy is healthy, if you appear healthy, then you are.' But obviously it's deeper than that.
