The Evolution Of Military Rations Throughout History
For centuries, troops have marched off to fight, risking their lives in combat. But what did soldiers eat in different eras? And which conflict offered the tastiest military foods? From blood soup to fermented horse milk, soldiers’ rations throughout history have contained some unappetizing options. There have even been military provisions so disgusting that they actually took the lives of soldiers. Some armies would have been happy to get any food.

I was part of the army as it transitioned from C Rats to MRE’s; or as called most of them, Meals Rejected by Ethiopia.

Remind this to the narrator! He's very disrespectful & not funny. I wanted to look at this as a serious look at history. This kind of disrespectful audio means probably none of this is true. Respect is more important!!! This has no truth, when you ursself don't take this seriously!!!

Fascinating. I'd also suggest a video about the food eaten by submariners, astronauts, mountaineers, miners, polar explorers, desert caravans, sailors, pirates, slaves, Gypsies, Bedouins, Polynesian seafarers.

I was a cook in the Navy. I've actually been issued MRE's cause I used to do a lot of field training exercises with my unit. My favorite was always the vegan chillmac, vegan burger, and sloppy joe. We also enjoyed the kool-aid they gave us too.

I was in the Air Force then the Texas National Guard. Let me tell you, you had to be pretty hungry to eat the MRE's. But eventually you did.
You get hungry enough, you'll eat anything!

During the war in Vietnam LRRPS or long range recon units were using freeze dried foods to take, similar to what Mountain House has today.

As a former Infantry Paratrooper veteran, I have had the prviledge of eating many modern day military rations. I remember to this day how wonderful and delicious French as well as Canadian field rations were. The Brits ate super well in garrison, their field rations no better than our MRE's. Our US Navy messhalls bring back good memories to me, as many times in my service I was able to eat at dozens of different Navy messhals and also box meals made by same on long non-jumping airplane flights. The Naval Post-Graduate School in Monterrey, CA messhall brings back particularly good memories.
