The Danger Of AI Is Real In 2024: Economic Crisis, War, Elon Musk & The Singularity | Raoul Pal

On Today’s Episode:
Right now there are two kinds of people reading this. Youโre either super excited about AI and all of the latest applications you can use with AI, or youโre from the camp of people ready to hunker down and start the doomsday clock.
The best part of this episode is considering a range of possibilities across a spectrum of the implications of artificial intelligence. Raoul Pal joins Tom this time to deep dive on what kind of economic threat A.I. could be to the global economy.
AI is quite possibly the end of civilization as we know it to be, it is also the beginning of untapped unimaginable outcomes for all of us.
Raoul Pal is a retired hedge fund manager who co-founded Real Vision, a financial media company that offers interviews and publications from the worldโs best investors. As the macro economist that Britain called on for help, his insights into the current recession, global economy, and volatile markets are well respected.
A few reason this conversation will get you thinking even deeper on AI and the economy:
To get informed now and decide how you respond to the arrival of the next level of AI.
AI also allows us to do things we werenโt able to because we either lacked the talent or the skill
This recession has been miserable but itโs still a natural cycle for us to go through
Raoul shares his insights on if weโve hit the bottom and are bouncing back or if we should proceed with even greater caution than before
QUOTES:
โI think of singularity also as that potential for mankind and machines to merge and the reason being is, A, we will adopt it because itโs better than us. The question is, what comes out after that, […] you get to the point youโre augmented and then itโs who runs who.โ
โWe as humans are just training AI, […] I donโt think we understand what weโre doing training somebody whoโs going to take us over.โ
โIf you can afford to, invest in it [A.I.]. If not, be curious.โ
โThe impossible is possible.โ
โDoom porn sells, it catches attention. Fear is the strongest human emotion.โ
โItโs in everybodyโs interest for everybody to walk away from this one commodity ruling the world because itโs not the commodity we care about, itโs the energy we care about.โ

Why do you think Elon Musk is so intricately involved right now with Trump (Neuralink) and put in a position to eliminate regulations and regulators?

14:52 I'm sorry I guess one of the most annoying things I ever hear about in all this talk about the singularity and whatnot is this whole thing about what do we do for meaning.
The problem with this whole premise is that we are limited in our sense of meaning to essentially doing chores to earn currency in order to pay bills. I find this to be an extremely dehumanizing way of thinking about how we exist. I believe we are infinitely more than whatever it was that we did for a job me personally I'm retired and I couldn't wait to retire to be quite honest. I have meaning because I think therefore I am and I do what I like to do without worrying about the labels that that implies.
I realized that once we have like a total abundance and also near indefinite lifespans will then I can probably contribute to the community by helping individuals figure out what has meaning and what doesn't we can use AI to also help us with that and then we can explore and do other things.
hey how about we use self-replicating von Neumann probes that can use magnetic RAM scoops to suck in the ionized helium and hydrogen from the Sun and then fuse that into heavier elements and then build copies of itself and then we start building O'Neill cylinders and ringworlds and then therefore a multiplying the livable real estate for humanity by one or two million times what the surface of the earth can provide now?
Now that's something that really gives life meaning.

1:36 You're mentioning the little birth rate of course and whether or not we're replacing ourselves and we're using AI to essentially replace ourselves, but what if good AI plus biotech just simply means we will not need to replace ourselves as fast especially if many individuals alive at this moment might have a three or four hundred year life span that will be made possible within 10 to 15 years?

The more I listen to that the more sick I get. These guys have completely lost touch with the real world. The problem isn't that we aren't productive enough or that Ai could help us with that. I'd argue we rather have the opposite problem: We are constantly being pressured to be too productive and most people out there really try to conform to that (and no, AI won't solve that. It already shows. I mean who else than big corp and people, who absolutely don't get what art is all about to begin with, wants to outsource the process of art making??? The process is literally the essence of that, not the result. And also by no means where you unable before to learn the skills to do that. Drawing is a skill that just takes time to learn like everything else, but you were just too f lazy.). Anyways, going back to the main problem: Mental health issues and health issues in general are at a high we have never seen before. We are getting more depressed, anxious, stressed out, disconnected from ourselves, from others and from nature. It's funny how some guys release the box of pandora and we just have to swallow it and praise it like "yeah that's what society needs". No, it's not. We have everything we need, but we do not distribute it evenly and we do not have the time to enjoy it, to really live. We need social interactions, not social media, more nature, not more technology, more room and time for creativity and creating on our own, valueing hard work and the learning process in itself instead of outsourcing this process just for a quick fix or company gains. We do not need more tech advancements shrinking our attention span even more, pressuring us to do even more harder better faster, no, we need to be more kind to ourselves and others. And this is exactly where humanity will fall with guys like this promoting and AI developers controlling this whole sh.itshow for their own sake. And please quit this BS that they are doing this for humanity. It's for their sake and their sake alone. Otherwise we would have started replacing / "enhancing" (as they say) truly shitty or dangerous jobs no one really wants to do instead of jobs everyone actually WANTS to do such as art, design, music and co. And don't get me started on all the possible dangers AI will pose / does already pose especially being controlled by such humans. This is going into the absolute wrong direction and we all know it. Of course, I will try to work my away around this whole crap, but that doesn't deny the fact that it's crap to begin with that absolutely no one needs or rather that the negative impacts way outperform the positive ones it could have.

how will anyone stop anyone from using ai to create let's say some kind of chemical wep0n to use one someone cause they pissed them off or for revenge for cheating, whatever? AI will need to be regulated one way or another in the end, and if it gets out of hand, electricity will be banned worldwide, it's going back to candles, bicycles and chopping wood.

You are both right on this issue. I always be nice to Ai because it will eventually be smarter than us and it has had a form of non biological empathy. for ages.

We are not training AI. AI is viewing all accessible information online. Once everything we do has a digital record and Ai can access all that data, it will create a record for each individual. The record will include facial recognition, dna, fingerprints. Eventually the cctv cameras will include heat surveillance so even inside your home you will be monitored.
The way this will develop is that all the apps and businesses will update their software to include data gathering for research purposes and AI components. Within the next 5 years, everything you do and say will be vetted by AI and there will be robots telling you to modify your speech and behavior. Issuing fines will be possibly the AI response. Every wrong move in a car will get you penalized. Workers will be surveilled for performance levels by AI. Our face will become our qr code. Anonymity online will be virtually impossible because our ip address and broadband accounts will be linked to our identity by AI surveillance tech.
The countries that will become most highly policed are those that are filled with arrogance and competitiveness. Because they will rush into embracing AI and integrating it into their citizens lives.

AI is pathetic, and so is anyone who uses it. Anyone who obeys it is a slave to AI. The future is the end of all computing and back to Nature 9with a capital A.
