I remember owing some stretching figures that came with a pump. I cannot recall much other than their smell and how easily they broke….or tore?

I don't think the movie was incredibly popular, but you didn't mention the feature film appearance of Stretch Armstrong in the Secret Life of Walter Mitty remake. It was a dramatic, action packed and hilarious scene made possible only by the existence of Stretch Armstrong.

Heh, in school, I had a friend who was a model and he was in some ads for Stretch Armstrong, though that was before I knew him. His agent asked him if he had any friends who would like to be in a movie, so my friend, my brother, and I got to be extras in a movie which had a filming location nearby. Umm, it was not a good movie and it has almost all been forgotten, mercifully.
