ALA Omega 3 (the kind found in plants and seeds) needs to be converted to EPA and DHA, and humanes are horrible at it. At best, we can convert 8% of ALA to EPA, and 4% to DHA. Plants are still important in a diet, but when it comes to omega 3, you get the best results with fish, or seaweed supplements.

My eggs are as local as possible – my backyard. I do use a feed that includes corn and soy, but it also has things like lentils. That is about half their feed. We also feed quite a bit of spent brewer's grain, which is mostly barley, with a little rice and wheat. The grains are sprouted, then dried and toasted (malted). Another portion of the hens' diet is weeds and veggie trimmings.
I don't know what all of that does to the components of the eggs, but its the best I can do.

As a diabetic, I’ve learned too much ch Omega 6 vs Omega 3 creates insulin resistance. My cabbage and Salmon intake is pretty high vs most diets. Avocado and Olive oils factor in too. Not sure about my polyunsaturated oil.

Johnny you have helped me to change out the oil I use, especially since I've learned that the seed oils and ironically, olive oils are affecting how much my colitis kicks me. I currently have been using coconut oil. Could you do a video on coconut oil and it's benefits🤔

I saw sprouts had organic, corn and soy free, regeneratively farmed, pasture raised eggs for $8/doz

If that's true, it's not a bad price! Unfortunately I eat about 6 eggs a day myself, and my kids easily eat 1 a day themselves 😅 At this point we may just need our own chickens!

You can’t just eat cabbages, leaves have so little omega 6s because they have so little fat period. You need dietary fat, you do in fact need calories to eat, and you can’t get all your calories from leaves

I'm going to see a new "Diabetic Dietician" this week. I'm just handing over a link to your channel. I know what I know and had the best physiology professor in the last century.

Sunbelt granola bars are nothing like they were in the 90s. I LOVED them as a kid, now they're just super nasty, in comparison. the oats and honey especially, it's 1000 times worse. makes me so sad. and that was 15 years ago when i last had them, I cant imagine how bad they are now.

JOEL SALATIN feeds his chicken soy, addressed in a recent episode of Beyond Labels podcast. If Joel does it I’m no longer convinced it’s as bad as claimed. Of note he feeds whole, roasted soybeans, not soybean meal.

    From St paisios.

"People listen to all these reports on television and become worried. They say, 'We shouldn't eat this, because it has chemicals; we shouldn't eat that, because it has hormones!'…

Listen to me: if you start worrying about all these things, you will have to stop eating altogether. Instead, you should eat everything, but always make the sign of the Cross over your food first. Say a prayer, cross it, and eat without fear. If you have faith and cross it, even if there is poison in the food, it will not harm you. It is the lack of faith that makes people sick, because they approach everything with fear and doubt instead of trusting in God's grace."

corn and soy isn't the problem its the excess of it, the way its grown and the stranglehold that COMPANIES have on farmers, which essentially removes the ability for farmers to make their own decisions. Why does one company get OWN a species of corn, then essentially force all farmers to grow it and then get them hooked on their specific seeds and weed killers. Why did these companies LOBBY to kill the free farmer seed program? Why is the transition to regenerative farming SO much more expensive compared to "Big Ags" way of doing it when Big Ag basically has farmers hooked on a subscription program???

Part of the reason corn and soy have taken over and can be easily grown in a wide variety of places is bc WE bred them to do that! Its not like we couldn't have done the same with a few other crops. And thats bc corn and soy happen to be pretty efficient at turning "inputs" into calories, but we all know u shouldn't try to live on a diet that heavily favors something too much certainly not a grain, corn, soy
That doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other plants/foods that are adapted to each region, climate, and season that also couldn't fit the bill. But we don't push them as much bc its not as EFFICIENT for mass farming, production and shipping etc.

Lets not kid ourselves just as conveint as it is for the consumer to eat corn, or eggs, or complain about how they are fed, its JUST as conveint for the industry to continue abusing old practices. Just bc its works out well enough up to now, doesn't mean there's not room for improvement. It CERTAINLY doesn't mean that corporations who control agriculture aren't cutting corners and providing "solutions" that get the job done, even if its not the BEST solution.

There's a LOT of nuance here. Corn and soy doesn't have to be bad for us or the environment.

I think there's a solution to be found and balanced here. FWB and the 2nd Farmer gives a realistic take on the problem they are trying to solve. Lets KEEP trying to solve the problem, and if we can keep Glyphosate out of the equation.

All that said like Johnny's saying feeding animals corn and soy isn't the problem. its HUMANS, US eating and excess of corn and soy or their oils on their own. The bigger problem is processed foods. Consumers misplaced their understanding how how unhealthy corn and soy is for THEM personally on the health effects of the animals or the consumption of the eggs. If you are worried about the health impacts of corn and soy or chickens that are fed that, then eat a higher ratio of leafy greens and avoid processed foods. Customers suspicion on egg farmers is MISPLACED, keep the heat on processed food companies instead guys

I’ve enjoyed your videos for a while and when you got to the end of this one it really got my attention because I grew up in Englewood. For a moment I thought the elementary shown in the background could have been the one I went to until I saw the CTA bus go by. My school was not on a busy street.
But back to the subject, is there a difference between eating raw or roasted seeds and consuming seed oils?

Off topic. I have a question. I bought a cucumber maybe 3 weeks ago. Put it in the refrigerator. When I wanted to eat it, it had spoiled. Growing fuzzy gray spots and was squishy. I threw it out but I was thinking about planned obsolescence and I wondered if the food has suffered the same fate as our appliances. I remember being able to leave cucumbers in the fridge, for as long as I wanted, without fear of the food going bad. It's a new refrigerator. I have blackberries growing in my yard and they stay fresh, longer than that cucumber. 🤷

I love the education Chris of @blackbirdcoop is giving so freely to us. As a hobbyist egg producer, chicken, duck, and goose, it’s great to see him tell it like it is, as opposed to all of the princess palace chicken coop influencers who would like you to think that mass-produced chicken and eggs are something it’s not. Same goes for you, sir, in helping folks understand what is marketing hype and what is real.

The ONLY problem with corn and soy…is that it is heavily sprayed with Monsanto's Glyphosate. If it is organic there is no problem. But, all our soils are basically soaked in pesticides so it's hard to get away from it.

17:22 I have chia seed pudding with my name on it from days ago and need to take a moment to fully "appreciate" it. But I do not know how much damage has been done by the oat milk used to make it. I MIGHT research that later.
