With the Next Generation winding down and Deep Space Nine establishing itself, Paramount wanted to realize a decades long dream to found a new TV Network and they had a perfect idea for the flagship show: STAR TREK: VOYAGER.

The reluctant producers wanted to do something different and what followed was a bold idea, kneecapped by the network, behind the scenes drama all surrounding a quickly collapsing network.

Voyager was my first Trek-series, and while it's apparently got a spotty reputation among more experienced Trek-fans I enjoyed watching their adventures, even if I don't recall how far along the show got over here- the strongest memory is an episode of the doctor creating a hologram family of his own, and it starting off funny and taking a turn for the tragic later. Also, B'Elanna Torres is still the one I remember most, not Seven of Nine.

As for this episode… was not ready for the history of Paramount's network-ambitions, but considering it lead to the CW and the endless mess and nightmares that's come from there as of late, I feel like the world had been better off had the companies not been allowed to merge as they did. Guess it's once again time to Blame The 80's…

I rarely ever comment on YouTube but this video annoyed me. It was just a bunch of filler describing the general plot of the show and the general history of UPN. There was only like five minutes actually dedicated to talking about anything of substance, especially the controversies. I had high hopes for this episode and you guys did virtually nothing with it. Shame!

Voyager was an interesting one… parts of it were just… terrible (have fun with the fact that there are utterly irreconsilable opinions regarding which parts those were. Well, other than the lizard episode), while other parts of it were incredibly good (… again, good luck getting a consensis as to which parts those were). The majority of criticisms of the show I've ever heard are entirely valid… but also, so is the majority of praise I've ever seen it recieve.

The biggest sins were bad/inconsistent writing throughout the show's run and the early abandonment of what should have made this show amazing: Starfleet with scarcity and mistrust. Two totally opposed crews are forced to work together at the other end of the galaxy with an ever dwindling supply of necessary supplies. This set up easy weekly drama as you debate everything from the usage of finite probes to acquiring fresh food to save power/strain on the ship. Thank goodness Ronald D. Moore got the reboot of BSG to revisit and flesh out these ideas.

6:08 Star Trek: The Motion Picture was released on December 7, 1979…which was also my birthdate.

Star Trek (birthdate), Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (seventh birthday), and Star Trek: Insurrection (19th birthday) were the #1 movies on my birthdays.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was released on my Health Sciences Assosciate Degree graduation date at Southeast Community College (May 5, 2022).

Eating Seven of Nine Stovetop Stuffing…while watching this video!

It's Stovetop Stuffing + Kraft Sharp Cheddar Cheese Slices melted on top + Heinz Street Corn sauce + Kraft parmesan cheese on top of that!
It's in honor of Seven of Nine's first solid meal!

Love the cast and series probably more than it deserves because it is my Star Trek but at the same time it is a case of what if. What I really wanted was an equinox style situation but where the crew kept their star trek morals. Crew and ship changing over seasons as they tried to find their way home.

Paramount Pictures commissioned the series after the cancellation of Star Trek: The Next Generation to accompany the ongoing Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. They wanted it to help launch UPN, their new network. Berman, Piller, and Taylor devised the series to chronologically overlap with Deep Space Nine and to maintain thematic continuity with elements that had been introduced in The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. The complex relationship between Starfleet and ex-Federation colonists known as the Maquis was one such element and a persistent central theme. Voyager was the first Star Trek series to feature a female commanding officer, Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), as the lead character. Berman was head executive producer in charge of the overall production, assisted by a series of executive producers: Piller, Taylor, Brannon Braga, and Kenneth Biller.

Set in a different part of the galaxy from preceding Star Trek shows, Voyager gave the series' writers space to introduce new alien species as recurring characters, namely the Kazon, Vidiians, Hirogen, and Species 8472. During the later seasons, the Borg—a species created for The Next Generation—were introduced as the main antagonists. During Voyager's run, various episode novelizations and tie-in video games were produced; after it ended, various novels continued the series' narrative.
