Nintendo almost single-handedly rescued the video game industry in the United States in the mid 1980’s. With that kind of power the entertainment industry took notice.

Captain N: The Game Master was the result of everyone wanting to get a piece of the Nintendo pie and it seemed like a no-brainer to take a bunch of franchises and just squish them all together.

I loved this show as a kid. Looking back, it didn’t hold up well at all.

But I didn’t know any better back then.

Hell, I didn’t have a Nintendo and had only played Mario and Duck Hunt at my cousin’s house at the time. So it gave me some sort of window into these games and characters at a time that I wasn’t able to experience the actual games.

I'm glad to hear that this cartoon series is on YouTube. I'm going to look up Wildbrain very soon. Captain N was a fantastic icon! Wow, thank you for another great cartoon history lesson. I loved this cartoon, flaws and all, and Princess Lania was cute, too!

Have you seen many of the original cover art for these characters?

Having a simple, cost effective art style to animate is how the stories were told.

This and Mario Bros was stupid fun… Did you know live action Luigi gives the Italian neck flick during an argument? Can't remember the episode. But Cap Lou as Mario.. Or animated Link being so moxy…

    Ahhh good, bad memories.

I have an old Polaroid picture showing a frame of one of the Season 2 episodes on my old TV in the living room of my old house that I took when I was 8 years old in 1991. In the foreground is both the Nintendo and Super Nintendo systems. At the time when I took it, it was just a regular photo, but now it's considered a rare piece of 90s history.

I remember watching the Super Mario Bros Supershow, but this one slipped me by (I was very young too) but I find it hilarious how Mega Man is not only green, but sounds like a pack-a-day chain smoker, lol.
