How to grow deeply happy | Jonny Thomson ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WShJeNX7W8
Most people are trying to solve the wrong problem, optimizing for happiness when happiness isn’t actually a goal, it’s a byproduct.
Mark Manson, author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, argues that the entire self-help industry has been selling ephemeral highs: affirmations, visualizations, the relentless pursuit of feeling good. The research doesn’t support it, and more importantly, neither does lived experience.

I think community formation also go through the child-adolescent-adult development frame.

Becoming an adult comes from gaining certain experiences. Without them, you cannot truly become one. But the biggest failure of adulthood is losing your inner child, the part of you that truly knows how to enjoy life, and growing up should never mean losing that. The rest is not so important…

jewish propaganda. the rationalists are coming for your children. do not seek blind self improvement in a toxic society – you will end up toxic in the end like all the other striving humans.

Although I hear you that no one is going to feel sorry for a multimillionaire best selling author but I’d really like to hear now that you have achieved success with work how you are identifying other values to focus your time on.

It's funny because I grew up in the baby boomer generation "where children should be seen and not heard" and that was enforced. None of that both teams win in baseball either. Teacher's actually hit us with a yard stick if we were unruly 🙂

Yay. Another bookseller telling us the problem is us, not this horrendous feodal system we bathe in.
Go try selling your fortune cookie bourgeois philosophy to people who are truly struggling to make ends meet, you’ll be well welcomed, trust me.

Good info, but could only listen to about 12 minutes before I zoned out. Should have made it shorter videos in a series.

The answers for most of the video’s questions for Americans is their marriage and/or offspring. There’s gonna be wildly different answers and outcomes for single people with no kids—and then some variation by age among those people.

57:30 Most of life is boring. 95% of life is being bored just sitting around waiting for the 5% that you'll remember. Using that 95% wisely where opportunity is.

49:00 Everything surrounding Manson's Law of Avoidance boils down to analysis paralysis. Human beings are a majority reaction engines with some fraction reserved to be proactive. What everyone wants universally is maximize their proactive/reactive ratio through their actions. More options creates more noise to lose the signal in.

36:00 Everyone has a fuck tank and it only has 5 fucks in it when it's completely full on a good day.
39:00 Momento mori is a strong part of my internal monologue but I've learned through practice that it is an incomplete statement perhaps intentionally. If you give too many fucks to this mindset, then you don't allow yourself chances to make the mistakes that turn into beautiful failures.

Great philosophy Mark! I've developed this kind of mindset the hard way by facing a lot of adverse circumstances and by my stupidity and nativity. I am sure I still have space to grow. All the best and thank you x
