The Black Crowes Respond to Fan WALKOUTS

Rock Feed | June 5, 2026

Chris Robinson has finally broken his silence on the Black Crowes’ viral Tampa concert controversy — and he’s not apologizing.

Days after the band’s Southern Hospitality Tour stop at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre erupted into boos, walkouts, and a viral TMZ clip that turned a single stage moment into a national headline, Robinson sat down with Ultimate Classic Rock to address the backlash head-on. His response: a defense of free speech on both sides, a sharp dismissal of the “clicks” outrage cycle, a clear and unmistakable line drawn for American veterans, and a flat refusal to apologize for the comments themselves.

It's not about free speech Chris……you can say all you want….you just have to deal with the consequences. THIS is the lesson that apparently needs to be re-learned and understood again throughout society.

Chris Robinson has shown himself to be the true Patriot. Not like these faux patriots spawned by Trump and MAGA. When you see your government is full of corrupt, criminal, grifting, soulless incompetent, warmongering media whores. It's your duty to call it out. Not be some blind faith ignorant cult member.

I can't understand why people would pay money just to hear this jackass bash our country and President Trump, just play your music and if you want to say something wait until you get off stage that way only other jackass's like you will listen and the people that wasted their money listening to your BS could enjoy the show.

Keep politics out of entertainment. People just want to have fun. You won’t change minds you will just piss off your paying customers. If you hate America leave a hole.

If he would've kept his mouth shut, his sarcastic remark was the problem, insulting your fans never helps, i wouldn't have left but my opinion of him changed to douchebag

I stand with Chris Robinson. He showed a backbone and stood for what he thinks instead of acquiescing to future ticket sales. That is Rock n Roll.

Wondering if the whole thing was caused by Chris not realizing that the Uncle Sam drawing was on screen? If so, it makes a lot of sense that he'd say, "Thanks for the geography lesson." and then react as if the crowd randomly launched into nationalistic chanting while an artist is performing/sharing his personal art that isn't overtly political.

Robinson has devolved into a drug addled wastrel which is fine, but knowing your limitations is extremely important as well. Robinson most assuredly didn't make millions being a social commentator. I guess you're getting ready to relearn what the Dixie Chicks, The Beatles, Green Day, Bruce Springsteen etc…etc… had to learn the hard way: DON'T ALIENATE YOUR FANS WITH POLITICAL DIATRIBES DURING YOUR SHOWS.

This singer simply missed the point, that many are seeking to bring patriotism back as this nation is severely lacking in that and having strong leaders. Music simply heightens such feelings and emotions. So when many cheer to support their nation, of which strives to stand on high moral grounds, AND of which we lost many soldiers to protect that; this singer and many like him, take offense to such cheers…that is the issue and a slap in the face to such fans. Such ideologies blind musicians and actresses/actors alike to that fact.

Typical rockstar response when called out the crap that comes out of their mouth! “ It’s not my fault it’s everybody else’s fault!” I don’t understand why people even care what these so-called Rockstars have to say at all!! But I guess this band didn’t like their fans very much!!

I can't understand anyone that thinks art and artists aren't political or shouldn't be political. These people express themselves for a living! It's like the 60's never existed for the fans that can't wrap their heads around it.

He made comments directly to fans that felt were very insulting. Regardless of intent. Fans pay his salary. He should have more respect for fans and be a responsible entertainer. He can have his personal opinions and share them appropriately.

Then to double down, claiming his intent is a 'soulful connection' is stubborn and insults the fans he already insulted.

Now every time I hear these guys I go back to this instance.
There is plenty of music to listen to, I don't need need HIS drama in MY life. Bye-bye…

That's what the crowd got triggered over? He didnt even do or say anything that offensive. He made a joke about how kind of silly it is to randomly start chanting USA. Youre not at a sporting event. You dont have to start chanting like a mindless 7 y.o every time you see a flag and you dont have to get offended when someone makes such a nothing burger joke like "thanks for the geography lesson." That wasnt even a political joke and he got booed for that? The "f*** your feelings" crowd really tends to be in their feelings about some really inconsequential sh*t.

Got nothin to do being a so called military town…. It's a red state town with a ton of patriotic good ole boys and women at that show… Chris didn't insult the military, he insulted the crowd….so many of us got up and walked out…Most of us only went to see Whiskey Meyers…It's that simple!

I don’t know why some bands feel the need to use the stage as their political soapbox. I pay for a live concert to hear a band or artist perform their songs in person, not preach their political opinions to me. If I wanted that, I would watch mainstream media at home or at the office.

Doesn't like the country that is 100% responsible for him having a career in music and why can now tour as a minor legacy act… Let that sink in… his most popular song was a cover… but that also sink in… he doesn’t have to love America, I don’t blindly love America, but at least show some perspective and gratitude for what it has afforded you.
