Jethro was my favorite My friend Jeff that's what we call him. We would ditch school get baked and we'll watch Beverly hillbillies Gilligan's Island all the classics🎉

I liked Jed. He was full of practical wisdom about handling difficult problems Noone in the family understood.
I'm glad he insisted that his character be changed because he fit well into the part of the matriarch of the family.
Iiked tge fact that his wife (granny's daughter- Rose Ellen " was mentioned on a couple episodes.
Another thing, Higgins was the SAME trained dog in Petticoat Junction and the original Benji movie. They used his son for other movies.

In recent years I have been wondering, since Jane Hathaway knew the clampetts were simple minded country folks, why did she always talk to them as if they understood her city style jargin? Mr Drysdale spent less time with them yet he could explain things to them so that they can understand.

As kids we called my mom's first cousin Cousin Bud because he was her age. So, not Uncle, but still a sign of respect.
Although I live in the northeast my mom's family did seem to have a lot of country sayings that caught people in our area by surprise.

‘Hillbilly’ originally referred to Appalachian mountain communities, many of whom were Union-leaning and resisted Confederate elites. Over time the term was weaponized in the media to stereotype them as backward, which erased the fact that those communities stood up and fought for their own political and economic rights. The Beverly Hillbillies were from the Ozarks, so the name is using the later stereotype, not the original meaning.

The Clampett family in The Beverly Hillbillies hailed from the Ozark Mountains. While often referred to simply as "the hills," the rural area was depicted as being in the Ozark region, spanning parts of Missouri and Arkansas. Oh my gosh..I was just listening and heard Granny's voice. Then I looked and saw her standing upright in some modern Church-going clothes.
And why haven't I seen someone on Drag Race on the Snatch Game be both Jethro and Jethrene? If that person does it well, that is a Snatch Game Win!!

I have always said Donna Douglas was the bravest person on television. She worked with raccoons, possums, bobcats, lions, a hippo, bears, etc. Many times, she was the only one in the scene with the animal. Now that is courage!!!

loved this show, as an animal lover I especially loved Elly Mae and her critters. As for calling Jed uncle, when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s in the midwest you would never call an adult by their first name, it was always Mr. or Mrs or if they were relatives or close friends of your parents they became Aunt or Uncle. Even now, in my 50's, when I meet a former teacher it still feels weird to call them by their first name

I was 21 in 1976 when a friend and I pulled up to a red light in Newport Beach, CA. While waiting for the light to change I glanced into the other car and there he was… Buddy Ebson. He was driving a common brown Chevrolet Nova. I turned to my buddy in the passenger seat to tell him that Uncle Jed was in the next car. When we both looked, he had turned to see us in time to deliver a huge Uncle Jed smile. The light turned green and off he went. I later learned that, like ourselves, he lived on Balboa Island!
