Bought these headphones in 2007. They are still alive. They are still the best. Although had to change embouchures every 5 or 6 years because of using actively.
Absolutely no regret buying them.

Huh disappointing. Only 40% is about the same I hear people say for the cheap headphones like Sony $30 sets. If it can't reduce speech then I might as well just get drummer earmuff studio monitors like I had before. Those were great at silencing everything.

I have these and 30 to 40% noise reduction is an extremely poor estimate. At the very least it's 85% to 90%. Just want to put out a proper estimate for potential buyers out there.

these are the exact same design as the HD 380 Pro (same mould just different colour plastic) and hd 380 pros are insanely good in terms of noise isolation. there sound quality is very neutral cause they r monitors but if u adjust the bass in ur eq they can produce amazing punch while being true to the rest of eq. so i recommend hd 380 pro for passive noise cancelling and good sound and ofcourse they r half the price.

Probably, as Sennheiser is currently refreshing their line of headphones. (HD400-HD500 series, PC300 gaming series, HD25 etc…), we'll see new ones *soon*, most likely 😀

It's pointless to have us listen to music from your headphones to your microphones, compressed through youtube and then through our headphones… I have HD650 on the head and might as well be using iPod earbuds :/

those two don't normally come hand in hand. You can either have bass heavy headphones (good ones are sony XB500) or you can have accurate sounding audiophile headphones like the AKG Q701's. I recommend the latter because you can tweak the bass with an equaliser if you you buy a good set of headphones

Dude, if you're gonna review something, try to gather a bit more info on the subject matter first. I'm no expert, but still I know that they don't "block off" noise, they produce a reverse wave to create destructive interference. Second, HOW can you expect them to cancel out UNPREDICTABLE noise like people talking? only predictable (e.g. periodic) noise can be sampled to create an "anti-wave". Thirdly why would you try to show sound quality on a youtube vid with compressed audio? 🙂

I've been using these for well over a year now. I would have to disagree with you saying the noise cancellation being powered on active lowering the sound quality. I feel having it active brings a more fuller sound it may up the base a little but its still very balanced. I always use them on active. I listen to alot of thick ambient sounds and varieties of metal music. maybe passive would be better for the acoustics. Might all just be preference.
