There are good remixes of a lot of albums – and I like the idea of remixing from original first generation tapes without too much other unnecessary job / corrections – like Steven Wilson does it. Why they do not speak to Mark Lewisohn ? – or do they ?
How easy can sb may make sb else a goof.
(the text below is edited, lots of it was used in previous comments after albums were released)
    Examples :
REVOLVER – it is not true that they need to use computer programs to do a good job to make better separation of instruments, voices – demixing for remixing – the job to be done is to go through the tape boxes and find original sessions, first generation tapes and takes that were used for "bouncing" to another tape with reduction of tracks to mono or stereo (this way engeneers were able to use two or more tracks on a new tape) – so there are two masters – one original attempt, master take, and the tape onto which it was copied – I guess we really DO NOT NEED super duper modern sound ! – what we need is the best possible sound from first generation tapes, even if some instruments, voices are on one track – who cares ? Demixing squeezed sounds from one track DOES NOT bring us to first generation tapes / sounds – original pre-bounce tapes exist !
However – I see that the idea of putting the evolution of songs somehow is now applied on this new box coming – I wrote about it in my comments before.
The WHITE ALBUM 50th Anniversary is wrong in many places, maybe apart from the two original discs remixed – only when I consider the much better sound, natural, but also with mixed emotions – Birthday remix with voices now compressed to the centre – the fun was in the voices on the sides, in the speakers. It is cheating fans and drawing money from our pockets – there should be an additional disc (nr3) including final remixex/mixes of Hey Jude, Inner Light, Not Guilty, What's the New Mary Jane, Lady Madonna, Revolution (single ver), full fast version of Helter Skelter leading to Ringo's shouting "I have blisters on my fingers," also could probably include You Know My Name since recording sessions span 1967 – 69, also Hey Bulldog (recorded with Lady Madonna) – like on Sgt. Pepper's 50th – there are final mixes of Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane, the session discs could include two/three versions of Sexy Sadie, Not Guilty, and others, showing evolution of the songs, and not the same as on the Anthology series (including the same versions as on Anthology is really not fair), also are we interested in instrumental versions ? – NOT in J. Lennon's voice ? – The next time they return to White Album will be in around 20 years – me dead.
Sgt. PEPPER 2017 remix – for me it's a crime to have sped up She's Leaving Home on, and also – the whole colour and magic is gone with the band and other instruments squeezed to the centre now ("stereo based on mono" as they say – lunatics at the consoles !?).
ABBEY ROAD – sounds great BUT why Ringo has soooo long hands now ? – my speakers are circa 2.5 metres apart, so I hear drums on the right in Come Together, and suddenly the snare is now in the centre – again – insanity. Why do bootlegers have access to better stuff ? – You Never Give Me Your Money (very long version with improvisation, poor quality, but interesting (probably take 30)). Why have we lost chance to have better quality "Because" vocals only version ? Why there aren't masters without strings like f.e. "Something" – would be really interesting.
Take this guy Giles M away from it ! – the only professional at remixing classic albums who I really respect is Steven Wilson these days – he has done GentleGiant, JethroTull, Yes, KingCrimson, Marillion – well done, good job.
Besides – the positive atmosphere during White Album (?) – Ringo Starr and Geoff Emerick left : "lost interest in the White Album because they were really arguing amongst themselves and swearing at each other" – from G Emerick book.
Probably we need apologies from Universal/Apple/GilesM/and .. PMcCartney ?!
    Tom

I’m intrigued to hear the alternate version of She Said She Said – apparently that’s the song where Paul stormed out of the session due to an argument (according to Mark Lewisohn, Paul himself and several other sources), and George helped John complete the song and played bass guitar. If the one on the CD is just a three-piece, then it might sound quite skeletal and raw!

Just an incredible miss by the marketing team at Apple! How could they not include the blu-ray with the surround sound mixes? Those discs have always been the go to listen for me and so many other audiophiles with all of the previous deluxe box releases. Revolver is my favorite album….but this will certainly turn many away from the "deluxe" version.

Silly point I suppose but the word "alternate" isn't the same as "alternative" in my world. "Alternative take" would be more accurate than "alternate take" for a different version. If anyone cares. And they don't. So I shouldn't have bothered. Sorry.

whatever the mixes…i just don't get why people re buy the stuff they have bought and heard probably several times already due to format changes overtime i guess…no way will i buy this latest release? This whole process baffles me. If it is new to younger people or whoever hasn't heard it before? Sure, buy it. or listen to it on youtube ? …but, if you have heard it way back in 1966…why?

Unfortunately I grew up with the American Capitol albums and I remember my favorite one was yesterday and today which was a hodgepodge of revolver rubber soul and help I wish they did a re-issue with that one that one holds special memories when I was a kid. But I think if anything I would probably get to see the set of this because I already have the 80s city and the 2009 remaster

I would want to know for certain how much of, or, if any of those 2 disc's worth of alternate takes are also to be heard on any Anthology albums.
First, I fail to see how this box set couldn't contain at least some of the pre released material, found on the Anthology(s) album,
and second, if there is duplicate takes found herein, I would consider that most unfortunate, but of little consequence, as I will no doubt be of the first to purchase said Beatles Box Set.

I am grateful you've brought this to my attention. I must've been living under a rock. Thank you

I got pneumonia at the start of my senior year of High School spent 4 or 5 days in the hospital missed over a month of school and when I got out of the hospital my mom had bought me Revolver so I'd have new music to listen to as I recovered.
    Greatest mom EVER.
Have finally decided to put this album at the top of the Beatles heap for me, all the energy and fun of the early live days with tons of shades of sophistication coming on, still recording and tight as a group–it's the apex for me.

This is so exciting . I agree with your assessment that Rubber Soul nips this one at the tape . Girl is majestic . I’ve just seen a face. I will purchase the deluxe because it’s like a piece of history, re imagined . My only other note is the lack of more visits to Tomorrow Never Knows . Thank you for this work

It will be good to have a official release of this Beauty at long last, I have had lots of the tracks before on the Bootleg album Revolving which is pretty cool.
Can’t wait for the official release though bring it on and take my money 😋

This album has always been considered the best up to that point (66) Certainly it was way ahead of it's time and features some of my favorite Beatles tunes like Eleneor Rigby, Tomorrow Never Knows and Taxman however I still think Rubber Soul is even better with more great tracks and certainly the most sophisticated lp up to that point (late 65) nonetheless will look forward to this box set release.

My wife was a Beatles fan and a member of their fan club, and years ago she said that ‘Revolver’ was her favourite album of theirs. I was slow off the mark and didn’t buy a Beatles record until ‘Hello Goodbye’, although I had enjoyed their records. We may well invest in this, it just depends on how expensive they make it!

While I understand and appreciate the fascination behind these wonderful songs and how they came to a final take I have discovered that I rarely play these multi different takes on the songs that I grew up with.
I am however pleased to hear the mention of a song that really turned me on to the Beatles all those years ago when I used to listen in on my brothers collection, Rain, I used to long to hear it more than say Help etc, so if there is a scaled down set of Revolver I would definitely be interested.⚡

Slightly interested in Revolver Stereo remixes but already own their greatest box set releases of The White Album and Abbey Road. No interest in Mono versions of anything actually.

Let's hope they do what they did with Sgt Pepper's and make a stereo mix based on the original mono. The other new mixes have progressively disappointed me more and more. I liked what they did with the White Album but couldn't stand the way they changed the run-out of Come Together for Abbey Road. Let It Be is the most disappointing with the orchestra and choir more emphasized than before. But even the White Album, I have cooled to the re-mix as the years have progressed because it now seems to me to be mainly about boosting the bass.
As for the extra tracks, Sgt Peppers did put in a re-mix of its great single so we could get the Strawberry Fields Forever that should have been on 1. Rain doesn't have that stature but hopefully will receive the full treatment for the first time.
In the main the stuff on the additional CDs has been terribly underwhelming, since the most important stuff was already on the Anthology. The most valuable stuff was the Esher recordings. I particularly resent what they did with Let It be, dropping all the covers and EVEN John's cruel rendition of Paul's first-ever song I Lost My Little Girl. It and the movie Let It Be and John's unbelievably terrible bass playing on The Long And Winding Road (so bad that Phil Spectre had to smother it with an orchestra) and John and Yoko's Two Junkies interview tell us such a different story about the group dynamic at the time than Peter Jackson's carefully edited document, which also, naturally, leaves out John's 4 minute take of this, the only Beatles recording of one of their most important songs.
To put I Lost My Little Girl in context, Paul wrote it just after his mother died. It was his third song (after Suicide and When I'm 64 – at the time just an instrumental). He didn't write again for about a year. When he met John he used this song to encourage John to start writing songs (Hunter Daives, in the authorized biography). John's first song was Hello Little Girl (1980 Playboy interview) – the little girl connection is obvious and both have gone on the record to say this pair of songs deal with their mothers, so the way John copied Paul is much deeper than merely reusing the idea "little girl". Paul's next song was Like Dreamers Do (Barry Miles authorized biography – one of my first songs) which makes a subtle reference to Hello Little Girl and is the first Beatles song to critique one of the group. In this way and through these three songs, the pair developed their songwriting technique, as Paul said in 1984 to Playboy, "the greatest plagiarizers in the world" – but it was in the main ideas from their own songs that they endlessly twisted and turned into something new.

Another great show, but why not show that still frame you mentioned from the Ringo broadcast, showing the back of the set? –Either that, or at least a link to it. –Thanks

My favorite Beatles album and one that I would be interested in the 2 CD version. I dont think I want to shell out almost 200 for the set. I would rather get the Creatures of The Night set if I had the green to waste on one of these. Still a fantastic album and probably will have some good outtakes and different mixes.

No doubt more than the Taxman is ripping you off with these box sets. 5 CD's and a book for £125 is taking the piss. Why can't they do what other bands do and stick them in a Clamshell box and charge 20 bucks cause that in reality is all they are worth and nothing more?

    March 6, 2026 at 8:41 am

Seems like they've really sabotaged the CD release to make it match the vinyl format. The discs are filled to less than half their capacity , and the four-song "EP" nonsense is a bad joke. Not even including the surround mix on the "deluxe" edition is a slap in the face. The earlier deluxe sets like the Pepper one were good value for money, this one not so much.

This sounds exciting but I have my sights set on the "Beatles For Sale" or the American version of "Help" big boy deluxe's. lol As ridiculous as it is starting to get, as long as Apple, the 2 remaining Beatles and the estates of George and John continue to keep draw from the well there will always be people out there who will buy it! The train won't ever stop!

About a dozen years ago Let It Be, Sgt Pepper, Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, and maybe Revolver, all leaked online multi disc versions with 3,4, 7, 10 version of outtakes. It was quite interesting and free if you want to hear a Beatle get the harmony part wrong, or play part of another song while another Beatle mugs a silly voice and stern Mr Martin tells the lads to try it again. Paying for that stuff is a mug's game.
