The $400 Vinyl Mystery: Camera Obscura’s “Lost” Debut Finally Returns

Poetic Wax | May 27, 2026

In 2001, Scottish indie pop band Camera Obscura released their debut album, Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi. The run was limited; just 1,000 on vinyl. Since then, prices for the record have stretched into the mid triple digits. Reissues have been whispered about for years, and now it’s finally happening! Today we’re taking a look at the history of the album and the Camera Obscura, from their humble beginnings through tragedy and hiatus, and now their triumphant return.

I was lucky enough to have caught their august '07 free (!) show at the south street seaport in nyc, it was magic. they played another free show the following day in brooklyn, pretty sure the clip of tracyanne with the bird pendant was that brooklyn show. on top of their music being so stellar they are the nicest kids in the world, hung out after the show, we all got to say hello and snap some pics. good times, man. cheers!

You know, after a decade of rap and non-instrumental music being the thing, the tides might be turning back! I am ready for our people to enjoy OUR music again.
