Drumeo | August 20, 2026

Brooks Wackerman breaks down 12 of Avenged Sevenfold’s most iconic drum parts, showing you how to play some of the band’s biggest songs on your own kit.

From classic tracks from The Rev’s era like “Unholy Confessions,” “Bat Country,” “Afterlife,” and “Almost Easy” to Brooks’ own era with the band, including “The Stage”, “Paradigm”, and “Nobody,” Brooks takes you inside the grooves, fills, and techniques behind some of A7X’s most memorable drum parts.

Each part is broken down slowly before being brought up to full speed, giving you a chance to learn the details, build up your speed, and eventually jam along with the songs.

Whether you’re a longtime Avenged Sevenfold fan or a drummer looking to tackle some challenging metal parts, grab your sticks and get ready to dive into the drumming of Avenged Sevenfold.

I love seeing Brooks get his flowers, man. Dude is an absolute BEAST and always has been even when it wasn't as obvious as it is now with his drumming in Avenged.

I remember when he joined Bad Religion, he became my favorite punk rock drummer in an era where Travis Barker (rightfully) was all the rage. And while I loved me some Barker, something about what Brooks was doing caught my ear. He wasn't flashy… Bad Religion didn't call for that… but you KNEW the skill behind the kit was massive.

Even so, when he joined Avenged, I was nervous… like… "Can my guy even do these double-bass parts? Is he THAT type of drummer?" And then I heard The Stage, and the rest is history. Brooks rules!

I continuously forgot that he started off playing at a slower tempo and found myself thinking “ah that’s not as bad as I thought it was” only for him to then play at album tempo and completely shatter my confidence.

You can notice that Jimmy would often match his double kicks up with his long snare fills, which is deceivingly tricky, especially at those tempos. Definitely something I need to work on in the future
