I was like you, I wasn't into the Game Boy when it first came out because I thought it was inferior technology because of the black and white graphics. But a friend of mine up the street, he got one the day it came out and I think Tetris was a pack-in game. I might be wrong, but I know he had Tetris on day one when he got the system. That was also my first exposure to Tetris. Nowadays when I play Tetris it's the NES version. I also have Tetris Forever on the PS4 and I experiment with all the different versions on there but I always find myself going back to the NES version.

I remember playing one of the first versions of Tetris for DOS with the Russian text in '85/'86 more or less.
There was no internet, software was copied and passed on floppy disks from hand to hand, and my thought as a kid was:
Wow! The Cold War is about to end… they're also thinking about video games and they're spreading them.

Hey there, Tetra comes from Greek, while in Latin it's Quadra, meaning 4 and referring to the four squares that make up the game's objects: the Tetraminos.
The name Tetris came from combining Tetra with Tennis, Alexej's favorite game. 😅
