I vehemently disagree on Disturbed version of SoS being a bad cover. I was 12 in 1966 when the original came out and felt it reflected the times in America which were darkness and sadness. Fifty years later I heard this version and was almost brought to tears as it was so beautiful It also reflects these times, replacing sadness with anger. Just for the record, I never heard of Disturbed and don't like their other music that I have since sampled. I would guess that you are a bit younger than myself so you may have missed that era of 1966 when music changed forever.

I wouldn't have given the Simon & Garfunkel original of 'The Sound of Silence' a second look. The Disturbed version is supririsng, but well-weighted and works as a plea to the disenfranchised.

Speaking of the horrid Bowie/Jagger "Dancin' in the Street", there's a video somewhere on YouTube where someone has deleted the music so you just get a bunch of grunts and groans – and all that stupid dancing. It's hilarious!

I love Kate Bush, but not a fan of her Rocketman cover. Starts well enough then goes all Reggie and loses me. Would love to know your thoughts on this Barry. Favourite is Gun’s rock version of the disco classic Word Up. 🎸

Agree to disagree on S&G covers. Disturb’s Sound of Silence is just fine, and Bangles Hazy Shade of Winter is far superior to the S&G original. In fact it belongs on a top ten list of best covers.

Barry, you need to listen to Puddle of Mudd's About a Girl live cover. It's something that needs to be experienced at least once. Your ears might never recover from it though

"American Pie" is one of the worst songs ever recorded. I've never heard Madonna's cover, and I absolutely don't want to.

I like the Dead Kennedys version of Viva Las Vegas but love Ryan Adams version of Wonderwall. I read. Somewhere that that’s the only cover version of Wonderwall Noel actually likes.

I agree with you, I too don´t like it when I hear cover versions of Simon & Garfunkel songs. Those two girls that recorded America, I can´t stand the sound of their voices, stingy with a metallic ring to the tone, awful voices.

Definitely agree about Dancing in the Street (despite loving Bowie and Jagger), To Love Somebody is a beautiful song and Nina Simone's version is stunning
