Before the massive success of the MCU and the DCEU, the superhero and comic book genre was still trying to find its footing on the big screen. Before Henry Cavill donned the red cape, Brandon Routh played the Man of Steel on the big screen… ever so briefly.
Superman Returns definitely raises some questions. Like why didn’t Superman tell Lois he was leaving? How did nobody realize that Clark and Superman left and returned on the very same day five years apart? Why did Lex hook up with an old lady, and why he is obsessed with this weird island idea of his? Does kryptonite take away Superman’s powers or not?
To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Superman Returns!

Brandon Routh got screwed over by Warner Bros and they ended up doing the same to Cavill except I really didn't care for his take on Superman. Routh deserved a trilogy.

Poor Brandon Routh, couldn't have been an easy casting couch 😢

I still think Brandon Routh was a perfect casting choice. His resemblance to Christopher Reeve was one reason why he was chosen.

I saw this movie in the theater on opening night. I left the movie thinking as you highlighted in your video. I left, looking around to see if anyone else looked as confused as I was. I expected this kinda of writing and actions from the Fast and Furious franchise, but this made me start believing Hollywood doesn't think much of their moviegoers' intelligence.

0:51 Well, this is a plot point of the Dark Knight Rises as well. Somehow nobody makes a connection that Batman and Bruce Wayne returned on the same day.

The thing that bothered me most about this movie was the young cast. I actually like Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth but given the story they should have been in their 30s not early – mid 20s.

I really liked Routh as Superman. He just had absolutely nothing to work with. The script was horrible.
