INFO: Steven John Wilson (born 3 November 1967) is an English musician and record producer, most associated with the progressive rock genre. Currently a solo artist, he became known as the founder, lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter of the band Porcupine Tree, as well as being a member of several other bands. He has also worked with artists such as Opeth, King Crimson, Pendulum, Jethro Tull, XTC, Yes, Marillion, Tears For Fears, Roxy Music, and Anathema.

This might be my favorite Steven Wilson record behind Grace for Drowning, as much as I love Raven and Hand Cannot Erase with all the epic prog-rock tracks and Guthrie Govan's amazing playing, I'm drawn more towards Wilson's first two releases. They're more atmospheric and have darker vibes, and I just love the minimalist approach to some of the tracks.

My father got me into Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson and I love almost everything that Steven has made. He is a great musician and I am always excited to see someone else's opinion. Great video!

This was Steven from Porcupine trying to find his identity as a solo artist. This is why it sounds very Porcupine… We all know what happens later. Haha

I love this album. It's my favorite of Steven Wilson's solo work. I love the experimentalism of it, how it mixes beauty and menace, the delicate and the terrible, the sparse and the lush. There are moments of pure beauty and complete dissonant chaos often within the same song, but it fits together perfectly. Abandoner is a perfect example. There are hints of NIN and other influences but to me this album has the most unique and individual voice of all of his work. The audio production and soundscapes are masterful. There's this kind of glitch track in the background of Vaneno Para Las Hadas (poison for the fairies) that both serves as a beat but also evokes the sound of cicadas or crickets on a midsummer night. It's genius, and the song itself is gorgeous. Wilson is a master of beautiful melancholy and this album personifies that aesthetic perhaps better than anything else he's done.
If you appreciate the more experimental and avant-garde side of his work I highly recommend checking out his collaboration with Mikael Ackerfeldt of Opeth called Storm Corrosion. It's just incredible.

this is a great album, must admit I'm not the most familiar with his music in Porc Tree but his solo records have continued to impress especially with Hand Cannot Erase back in 2015 🙂

Steven Wilson is a master of music. Each of his solo albums gets better & better. He is very deep both lyrically & musically. You do hear elements of Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes and yet he has his own distinctive sound. "Hand.Cannot Erase." is his apex in my opinion. The newest album "To The Bone" is very good, yet not quite as innovative as his earlier works. He doesn't have a great singing voice, but he has a pleasant voice & he knows how to make it fit his music. I think you will enjoy working your way through his entire catalog.
